I think Miriam set about getting all the facts before posting, Griff. I've passed on comments though.

I don't disagree, Tac, but I think there's a point that if you can access Twitter via 3G, you should be able to access the forum as well.

Fair point and I did post to the forum from my iPhone.  I just thought Twitter might be more convenient for people.

Not everyone is expected to know this, of course, but there is a WAP version of the forum.  Just add ';wap2' to the URL (without the quote marks), so the index page would be:
http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?wap2

I didn't know that and thanks for the pointer  :)

Worth bookmarking?

Definitely!  :)

What's all the fuss, mine was down for less than 30mins. I just phoned my nextdoor neighbour to check if his was down as well (also Idnet). He went to check just at the point that it came back on. I don't use my phones to access the net, but I do use them to ring a friend.  ;D

I manage to check the forum on the weak 2G signal that we have around here.

Most of the interruptions to service seem to happen out of hours, and often sorted before any official status is changed. I don't think using Twitter is a terrible idea, but maybe the existing systems could be made more efficient before adding any more methods.

Anyone else having problems again tonight?  Just spoken to Support as my router has for the last hour been in a continuous internet lost, DSL training and DSL established loop. Support say that they are still having problems but could offer no advice other than 'keep trying'.

Steve

There's nothing on the IDNet status page to say they are still having problems with their network after last nights network outage, I therefore find supports comments puzzling. It sounds like your struggling to maintain sync at the exchange, can't recall whether your BT or Be* though, so in theory it's unrelated.

Phoned IDNet again and a more helpful receptionist said that she would get an engineer to investigate. Now had over 30 resynchs. Downstream error rate is high. Over 5000 CRCs in 15 mins: 101 SES. BT line and I agree that it looks like an exchange issue. No errors upstream. Synch remains at 17.8MBps.

Why not have a recorded service message when there is a known outage, so one can call in and check before connecting to tech support. It takes seconds to record and playback, would save customers and support staff time and be better than an engaged tone.

Simon

I guess, if it happened out of hours, there would be no one to record it.

I didn't think there was such as think as "out of hours" anymore or did I miss something?

Simon

Sorry, I thought it was meant that IDNet recorded it, as the OOH service don't really seem to know a lot.  I'll get my coat...

Is the out of hours support not Idnet then? (I've never called since the OOH service started so I've no idea who provides it)

Simon

No, it's a company in Ipswich, I believe.

Steve

Was it just me or have we just just suffered a brief loss of routing for about 5 mins?

Is anyone else having problems this morning? My router thinks it's connected but it's not.

[EDIT] Now my router thinks it's not connected but it is? :dunno:

Yeah, sorry, cross post. There's something really odd happening at my end. Windows and my router insists that they are not connected to the Internet and yet here I am.

I've had a jump in the base latency since the glitch

That's a big jump, interleave changed? Mine may be up by a minuscule amount  :dunno:

I doubt that's related to the glitch Glenn as it happened at the wrong time. That just looks like DLM increasing interleaving.
