El Reg (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/28/dabs_amtrak_administration/) is reporting that carrier Amtrak, used by Dabs amongst others, has failed.
Makes a change from a computer company failing, I guess.
Dabs are not my favourite company to deal with, had many products go wrong from them, in fact enough to make me wonder about their product quality completely :(
It's not a company I would use, Gary, but thee failure of Amtrak does surprise me. There seems to be so much work out there for carriers atm.

It does make you wonder, Rik, and because of failures we end up with that sit and wait day, that ends up with the dreaded its almost 5pm and they finish soon feeling, since internet shopping is so popular it makes you wonder what went wrong with Amtrak, not that I remember ever having anything delivered by them though
I always thought that " Amtrak " was the name of the big railway company in the US, shows how much I know. ;)
Never used Dabs since BT took them over.

Actually I thought it was the train company as well to begin with, which could explain the problem, those trains can't run well on roads ;)
They are certainly " station"ary now Gary.. ;D

I've lost track...
No you've been side tracked ;D
 :karmic:
I guess that cost of fuel may have had something to do with it, though I doubt it was the primary cause of their demise.
Possible, Seb, particularly if they've bid low for contracts.
Exactly, which I suspect they did. Companies like Dabs must have such bargaining power as there's so much choice out there.
It seems everyone is squeezing everyone else, now, in the hope that they can make a profit in the process. Eventually, it will become like a house of cards. :(
I decided not to use DABS again since the Sat Nav I bought turned out to be a factory re-conditioned unit although there was no mention of this before I bought it. I couldn't really complain because I'm happy enough with it and it looked like new and came with a 12 month manufacturers warranty however I thought it was a bit underhand not mentioning it beforehand.
Not only underhand but illegal.

No doubt Rik and I'm sure I would have been within my rights to return it but it was a good price, works okay and I couldn't find any fault with it so decided I'd keep it. I suppose this is what they were banking on but I've never trusted them since.
If you're happy, it's not an issue, but it is short-sighted as trust is impossible in the future.

I can see your points, though, but they do signal your intentions... :out:
I work for Laura Ashley and they use Amtrak to deliver a lot of items. Word is they went into liquidation but it's not the first time they've done it and then bounced back. It's just rumours around the factory though.
