Title: Email problems
Post by: cs on Aug 18, 2008, 14:55:43
Hope someone can shed some light on an email problem I am having.

I keep getting emails that are failing to send. I am not sure if the problem is IDNets end, or the receiving server (or even my mail client)

I am getting 'Undeliverable' messages from the mail server and the following is an example of one such message (except i have blanked out the address for obvious reasons)

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

      'gbxxx@xxxx.co.uk' on 14/08/2008 10:39
501 5.1.3 Bad recipient address syntax

Now, all of these address are at the same domain (my employer). I know the addresses are good as I email them all about 20 times a week! They are only failing on occasion and most emails are going through ok.

Now I could believe that my work's mail server might be playing up, but no-one else in the company is having any problems and I just checked with IT and they say everything is working fine their end..(Yeah I know they always say that, but I do believe them this time). I also send a similar amount of emails from my Blackberry which goes through Vodafone's Smtp server (it is not a coporate BES connection) and I have never had a failed email even once.....

The email that was referenced in the message above was sent to about 15 people, all at the same domain and only 4 out of those failed to receive it.

Every time I get one of these messages, I just re-open from my sent items, re-send EXACTLY the same message and it goes through fine.

Any ideas anyone????

Many thanks
Chris

Is PlusNet in anyway involved, Chris?  I only ask, because I've been having trouble sending an email to a PlusNet user, not just from my IDNet account, but from several different email accounts and servers.

Failing which, I'd suggest talking to support, Chris, as this really needs to be dealt with more specifically than we can do in open forum.

This might help:

Thanks guys. No Plusnet is not involved in this. But if I find out any info I will let you know in case its a similar problem.
