Welcome, Andrew.  :)

I wasn't at my computer at that time, but another IDNetter, Calum (http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=1053), has told me he had a brief outage as the same time as andrewx.

				Me as well.

Heres my log on dsl4

This was part of my log when I lost PPP whether this points to BT as source of fault or Rik switching something off I am unsure. ;)

That's it, Steve, he's obviously just got off the exercise bike!  ;D

I'm on dsl4, didn't drop connection but *did* loose DNS during the 'glitch' ...

That would more likely affect sync.

				Had a reply from Andrew:
"There were no system-wide outages that we are aware of around that time yesterday either on our side or BT's.
I will get your line checked with BT to see if there are any issues present on your line specifically and let you know."
I have replied, pointing out that it wasn't just me, with a reference to this thread.

				Thanks, Simon.

I lost PPP at 21:04:16, so it's not a gateway issue.

				Heard back from Andrew again:
Despite the flag on your line, BT turned nothing up so it must have been a blip.
We've seen a number of end users affected by a ppp drop around the time you mention, but it wasn't as the result of anything within our network that we can see.
There were a number of thunderstorms overnight in the region which can commonly cause stale sessions on the BT network side.
Though there have been no official notifications regarding this from BT, we feel this is likely what caused the drops.

I suspect that's as much as anyone can guess for such a brief outage. I've never heard of thunder affecting PPP before, though.

I lost connection around 9pm last night too.  Unplugged router from the phone line, left it 30 secs and then put it back in.  Been fine since.

I just left mine alone and waited, then it came back on it's own after a couple of minutes.

Me neither. I'm not convinced that was the cause.

Unless it affected a data centre?

Thats what I wondered last night

True - it's possible.

After denying any problems and claiming all was well we have now received notification from BT that they are to be perform "engineering works" on their router that connects to us. This is to take place in the early hours (00:01 to 06:00) on the morning of Thursday 14th. With the possibility of follow-up works in the same time frame on 28th August. We can expect one or more periods of downtime during these windows.
Regards
Simon

Thanks, Simon. Curious that they are taking two weeks to do the follow-up, if needed...

Thanks for the info, Simon.  :)

				Thanks, Simon (D). :thumb:

PPP down again for 5mins .gw5 via milton keynes

Hmm... nothing in my logs, Steve.

				Nor here...

My logs are clear too. I suspect the BT router which is due for attention this week.

No evidence of any service interruptions for last night in my router log. What ever BT did last night they must have done it very very quietly.

It always happens when I flag the outage, Steve. They do it to make me look silly. ;) (Obviously, they don't know I'm quite capable of that all by myself! ;D)

or did they do anything? you know what BT are like. say they will do something and don't do it.

There's a 'follow up', if required, in a fortnight.

Those were also my thoughts, someone probably forget his flask and had to return home.

anyone have a drop today about 3.50pm for about 5 mins here  ???

				Nothing here, Baz.

				glitch in the system

				Ah, but whose system? ;)

				THE system  maybe  :o :o  ;)

I didn't know there was one, Baz, I thought it was all guesswork and chaos. ;D

I'm having odd service outtages - very brief but definitely out all the same.  Always between 9 and 10pm - weird.  Haven't got any stats to post like you guys - where do I find those?

				Check here, Chris:
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm
Your router is probably listed with instructions on extracting the data.

Hmm well my router isn't listed but looking at the other linksys ones the interface is the same - but it doesn't tell me where I should type the command..... adslctl info --stats

				If it's this you mean:
Turn debug on:
http://192.168.1.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug
start telnet:
telnet 192.168.1.1
type in command:
adslctl info --stats
Then you need to first turn debug on via your web browser, then open a command prompt window and telnet to the router, then enter the command.
