Title: Bulk Deletions in Webmail
Post by: didahdit on Aug 03, 2008, 10:50:04
Forgive me if this obvious but I can't find any help.
In webmail my Junk folder gets plenty of mail.   Is there a way I can bulk delete them or set it up to automatically empty after n days?

TIA Bob

I don't use webmail, so can't test this, but at the bottom of the screen, there's an option to select all, unread or none. Would selecting all then deleting work?

I don't think you can have them automatically deleted, in case something got in there that you actually needed.  Junk mail filters aren't foolproof, although IDNet's do seem to be very good.  :)

By the way, :welc: Bob, and have a customary Karma!  :thumb:

That will go some of the way, Rik. I seem to remember that the webmail shows only 40 messages to a page, so a select all only selects all on that page. Obviously, you just need to do select all until there really is no messages left.

Thanks for the welcome and Karma's IDNetters.  It's good to be here.
Looks like I'll just have to delete them a page at a time.   Or maybe turn off the junk mail controls and let them go through to my Thunderbird and lose them there.
The problem, as I see it, is that the Junk mail folder in my idnet mailbox will eventually fill up the whole mailbox and render it unusable.  Unless I empty it on a regular basis.

btw. Can I turn off the Junk mail control?

Whilst I'm here let me tell you a funny story.

I originally started using IDNet e-mail about 4 months ago when my then ISP - Eclipse - completely screwed my e-mail and gave precious little help.  I didn't want to move ADSL then as I still had time to run on the contract.  But James gave me an e-mail id FOC (hope you don't get into trouble James) so I could migrate my correspondents over to this new ID.  Eventually in early July I moved ISP and that very evening - IDNet e-mail went down.  Fat & frying pan sprang to mind!   The difference was, this time I wasn't fobbed off with gobbledygook and "The call is with Technical Support" for a week.

Thanks for listening

Bob

 ::) ::) OH DEAR!!!

At the bottom of the page against Folder are the words Compact Empty.
Guess what happens when you press the Empty button.   Derrrr

On the positive side I gained some Karma and introduced you all to an idiot.   :)

Come to think of it, I recall that emails in the junk folder older than 30 days are deleted automatically - if I get a chance I'll do a search to confirm!

Just as well you remembered it, Lance, as I didn't. Which, considering I made it, is not a good sign for the grey matter. ;D

Sadly, Ray, they are off my menu for the time being. I think I'm going to turn into a rabbit. :(

Aren't you allowed Oven chips either, they are very low in fat content?

If your front teeth and ears haven't started growing yet you should be OK, Rik.  :) ;)

I've got no specific prohibitions, Ray, just low fat, low salt (the latter puzzles me as I'm not hypertensive, rather the opposite).

Rabbits do tend to make up for their boring diet in other ways.  ;)
