Title: Router problem
Post by: jodybhoy on Jul 27, 2008, 21:21:38
Hi

I was having problems earlier with my connection going off, which i found very strange as idnet is reliable.  I was getting very frustrated so went to my router address & eventually after trying a couple of things i ended up restoring factory settings.  Now i cannot connect to internet, have boobed but can anyone help please?

Hi Jodybhoy,

I take it that after the factory reset you did put all of your IDNet setup back into the Router's configuration.

For me I have the following setup:
E.g:
logon username: abcd.efghij@idnet.gw5 (username must be entered in lowercase)
password: qwerty12345

Where "abcd.efghij" will be your IDNet user name and "qwerty12345" will be your IDnet password.

Your Static IP address will be: 91.xxx.yy.zz (255.255.255.255)
Where 91.xxx.yy.zz has to be your IP address although this can be set to be detected automatically.
Primary DNS: 212.69.36.3
Secondary DNS: 212.69.40.3
Encapsulation: PPPoA
Multiplexing: VC-MUX
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
Authentication: CHAP
Outgoing SMTP Mail Server: smtp.idnet.net

To access your router's configuration you may have to enter something like one of the two following IP addresses in the address box of your Browser IE7, FF or what ever it is you choose to use.
Try this one first: 192.168.0.1 It was the one I used to access my Netgear.
If that does not work try this one: 192.168.1.1

If you have done this already check that all your connections are made properly and that there is a dialling tone when you lift a telephone receiver.

Telling us the type of router you are using will help others more able than I am to help further should it be necessary.  :)

It may just be worth adding that some longer idnet customers may have the username in the form of @uk.idnet.dsl4 and will usually have an ip address begining 212.x.x.x and the more recent members may have an ip beginning 93.x.x.x.

Glad it's sorted. :)

Incidentally, it's worth mentioning that if you were experiencing disconnections, it's more than likely a line issue. If it continues, let us know and we'll help you look into it.
