This can cause Java applet failure with IE7 displaying "Several Java Virtual Machines running" also the Java update binary SSVAGENT.EXE is not signed digitally, an old bug that has reappeared again, if you get this error the suggestion is to use java 6 update 10 beta until its officially released later this summer

I've found recent versions of Java (1.4 onwards) to be very stable - the odd bug but nothing like as flaky as it was back in the 1.2 days.
