Just eventually got back into my email account only to find there are several folders missing, these had some important and personal info contained in them, where have they gone?
anyone else had this since all the problems with the email?
It this webmail? Some data it still 'trapped' on the server that fell down, but you'd have to contact IDNet to find out if could be personal mail folders.
Not to be wise after the event, but in general, the best advice is always to download mail to your own machine, especially stuff you need to keep, and make a backup of it.
Yea Simon its the webmail, and i'll take that on board and start doing it from now on.cheers
The same will apply to IMAP mail, however, I do know that IDNet will be doing their level best to recover mail from the failed server if they possibly can.
Sorry, it wasn't a ticking off, Cowie. :) As I said, you could contact IDNet about the missing data. I doubt they could give you anything definite, but they may be able to say whether losing webmail folders is a possibility.
As Rik says, this is to do with the server failure. Hopefully IDNet will be able to recover the old mail, but for now, it's empty mailboxes.

No need to apologise Simon lol, never took it that way, just agreeing with you,i will start backing up or copying important stuff over to my pc rather than leave it in mail folders etc.

If you use windows then outlook express or windows mail will be good enough for storing a copy of the mail. Just set it to leave a copy of the message on the server.
