My Dual SSID 2700HGV stayed sync'd at around 4600 for months, but recently the SNR has been regularly dropping and when the router re-connects the sync is always lower, this morning it was at 3876 with a SNR at 6. :bawl:
I decided to swap over to the standby router, the same model and set up in the same way and that 2700HGV sync'd straight away at 4760, still at SNR of 6.
If I put the old one back, it still syncs at circa 3800@ 6 SNR and the spare holds 4760@ 6 SNR - a few months ago there was no difference in their performance.
I will have a play with the low performing one, but has anyone any ideas on what to try ?
It sounds like a dying modem, tbh, Alan. Have you swapped power supplies when changing them over?

No same power supply and cables, just swapped out the box
Might be worth swappping, Alan, some PSUs can be noisy, and maybe one router is more susceptible to that?

So connecting a different router immediately after gives you significantly improved sync? If so, it sounds like it's on its way out. :(
I wonder if that is the reason for my attenuation is showing as rising, it has gone from 59.3 to my 61.4 in the past 3 months, another 0.9Db and the line noise is twice as loud I believe.
Perhaps they are programmed to gradually self destruct when not being used with BT Internet?! :whistle:

That's an interesting observation Glenn as when I first got connected up with the twisted pair in my CAT5 cable back to the new ADSLNation filtered faceplate I had this attenuation:
Current Attenuation: 40.5 dB syncing at 4256 kbps
More recently it is:
Current Attenuation: 41.4 dB syncing at 4448 kbps
That's 0.9 dB higher just like you have seen.
When I bought my eBay 2700 you may recall the generous seller sent me two as he did not want the second one. One was "new" and the other "used" in his terms. I set up the "used" one first and it sync'd lower that the "new" that I tried later but this may simply be because it was at a different time. I am just left knowing that the one in the cupboard that is my spare, sync'd lower on the occasion that I had it in use.

I cleared mine after about 28 days from the previous reboot at the beginning of June when we got back from Venice and then a couple of days later mine took a reboot all of its own accord! The two events were most likely completely unconnected but I guess you just never know.
I have added this edit because I have found someone in Canada reporting a similar thing to you Alan.
The thread is active and the guy has bought a job lot of 2Wires to do comparisons with!

Funnily enough, my attenuation has risen about 0.9dB. I wonder if they all deteriorate gradually?
I must say, despite my love for the 2700, I think it's a cheap router in terms of build quality. If only there was something of a decent quality out there that sync'd high like it, though. :(

Mine is from 59.3
to currently 61.4, a rise of 2.1 dB
Having read this I have checked the attenuation figures for the 2 routers this morning......
Old one = 60.1, it never used to be that high.
New one = 58.7
It seems that the attenuation is being read differently.
ps. I should now change from a 3meg profile back to a 4meg one ;D
I wonder if a factory reset and putting the settings in again would restore the status quo?
IIRC, attenuation does rise in summer due to the 'warmer' temperatures.

No joy trying that, it has simply degraded with 6 months use; mind you it has worked hard !
should not degrade though in 6 months, I have had netgears last years, my old DG834 V1 is still going at my mums ;D and that is very old.....the router oh and my mother

I wonder if the 2-wires achieve the results they do by 'over-driving' the chipset?
But surely they would make the chipset better to be able to cope?!
You would hope, Lance. It's just we seem to see a lot of oddities with them for a router which holds such a small market share (though perhaps not in this forum!).
What would be good is a speedtouch or netgear with the same magical ability as the 2wire, but with the the nicer interface and reliability of their usual routers. :thumb:

Ok, the errant router has now been tested against other 2700HGVs on better telephone lines than mine.
At lower attenuation this router performs as well as other 2700HGVs, it is only at high attenuation that it's performance is worse than others, so perhaps Rik is right about the chipset being overdriven.
Or it may be specific to my line, after all not many routers can reach these sort of figures.....

sync 7030 Att 52.5 SNR 6.1 db, power, who knows ;) but I am cheating as its ADSL2+ ;D
I sync at 3.5M on a 57db attenuation line, Alan, albeit I do have target noise margin set to 9, but you still seem to be about 700k more than I would expect.
