been using acronis true image ver 11 back up on my xp computer for some time now (5 full backups) everything ok
but now when i try backingup it goes through all the motions ,says the backup was successful, but will not validate, i backup to an extenal drive, but when i try to validate ,the new backup does not show in the list. the backup shows on the drive, but with an icon i do,nt recognise.
tried uninstalling and reinstalling acronis ,no different. checked for updates ,no updates available
can anyone help
Try having a look on the Wilders Acronis TrueImage forum here (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65) I'm sure I've seen posts on their about this problem. :)
At the risk of sounding like a Luddite, would it be possible for you to install an older version of ATI once v.11 has been uninstalled?
I only mention this because I've read so many negative reports about ATI 11 and 10 that I've persevered with v.9 on all my XP systems without a single glitch.

Same here Drummer.. :thumb:
If merlin is using Vista he'll need TI v10. There are far fewer complaints about that version compared with v11. As previously stated the best bet is the Wilders forum.
thanks everyone for your help, i'll struggle through the wilders site.
did,nt realise this is such a well known problem, which,it seems todate has not been resolved ???
somewhere i have version 9, but can,t find it right now but will keep looking
the really annoying thing is , that this program has worked ok for 5months, including 5 full backups , then for no apparent reason go,s wrong ???
went on the wilder site, everyone agrees acronis is a wonderful progam , but version 10 has many problems, and version 11 is a disaster. i did,nt realise things were this bad, and their help center can take up to 3months to get a reply !!! according to one person.
meanwhile i thought i would try making a backup to "my docs" as a test, it worked perfectly, i then sent it to my external drive , and did another validation, worked fine, and the strange icon has been replaced by the correct one .
so in some way it suggests that the external drive could be the cause of the problem, this has also been suggested several times on the wilder site, but no one can find the reason
meanwhile i will either use the system above (although it takes longer) or/and keep searching for my version 9 disc
and thanks again for all your help
I make my backups to an internal drive, Bob, then copy them to external USB drives. That way, you have more than one choice if anything falls over.
Glad you found a workaround.. :thumb:
and even better i found my copy of version 9, so uninstall 11, install 9
thx everybody
