Title: Backup Software
Post by: psp83 on Jun 11, 2008, 18:16:17
Hi.

Basically we all work from a central server in the works office.

We want to run a backup from a spare pc, this backs up the server to a usb drive on the spare pc in the office, we also want it to backup to a drive (that uses ftp) off site, at my boss house at the same time (if poss).

Any thoughts what apps would be best for this?

Paul

SyncbackSE (http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/sbse.html) might be worth a look, Paul.

I use Syncback and like it, though I have had some trouble with the scheduler. For your off site backup, you should tunnel it through VPN. The thing is, the house had better have a really good connection and a lot of bandwidth allowance. Most consumer grade connections at a house are either too slow or don't have enough GBs!  :shake:

Boss has option 3 bt business broadband at his house, gets full speed (7mb).

It will only be small backups over ftp.. the "main" backup will be done in the office first then taken back to his place.. so only changed files will get backed up (nothing bigger than 2/3gb a day in the early hours 2/3am)

I will install SyncbackSE tomorrow and see how it works.
