Dell are doing an offer at the moment of a server class PC for just £117 delivered http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/195474/dell-poweredge-sc440-tower-server-1/
Heck of a good buy, Glenn. :thumb:
What a deal. I want a server, but I just don't know why I need one yet. :)
I always have that sort of debate when it comes to technology. ;D

I often think that you find a use for some things
after you've bought them :)
You need a server, Sebby, to have a central place to store backups, to run as a itunes server, and maybe for downloading torrents if you do that too!
When does this deal end? if its still on at the end of july i might get one.
Great deal Glenn .. :thumb:

Surely a NAS is a better option for the above? For about £130 you can get a 500Gb drive, an OS and mediaserver software included and also use a lot less power .
That's probably all I'd need, Steve, but I'm still not sure I'd use anything other than the storage space, and I've already got a backup drive connected to my PC. :)
I have always fancied linking a NAS to sonos zone player but continue to baulk because of the expense :)
I succumb today and ordered the server, my current NAS had run out of space on it's 300Gb drive. It will have Windows Home Server installed on it, and run as a file & print server, maybe later a mail server too.
