Hi Simon, had to check via board as no notifications are being received, yes I am using Webmail played up last night, its not only slow but messages are taking time to get to me.Have tried logging out and refreshing, nothing seems to resolve it ???
I've just tried it here and it's as fast as anything. So all other sites are okay?
??? Thanks Sebby
It could be DNS - try OpenDNS.
Just switched to lap top and all seems fine on this...... ???
Are you using the same DNS' on both?
It might be worth flushing the DNS resolver cache. Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. :)
Thanks Sebby,I have been trying to get a speedtest on Bt no luck so will try thias and thanks for using the lingo I just understand.I was going to try and turn router off for a while then reboot.
This one has gone the same way as the one next door, would his point to router?
My speeds have always been a little dissappointing really norm is around 2.5 and I did hope for faster speeds given my profile, anyway I dont want to get irritaing to you so will try this thanks again
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5632 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4215 kbps
Just turned off the router and the speed has returned which is a relief.also as you can see managed to get the speedtest which wouldnt run before,it did mention dns.
I havnt tried this on this machine as its vista and couldnt find the search box to flush, but will try on the desktop tomorrow although this may be solved :fingers: :thnks:
Just tried Email and its instant so hopefully this has cured the problem :thumb:
Glad to hear it. It could have just been a glitch, but do let us know if it happens again. :)
Thanks Sebby all machines running almost twice the speed now and Email is instant... :thumb: :thnks:

Yep gone again. I get the notification that mail has arrived, then cant access the content.same applies to sent mail and drafts. It was fine yesterday and even today although have only opened a couple of Email ?
No problems here, David. Have you tried setting up one of the accounts in OE/Windows Mail to see if you can pick it up OK that way?
I was going to suggest using Windows Live Mail, I use it, once set up, it is all automatic. :thumb:

Will do that right away ? just checked the router and by DNS just states successful.....anyway ets try the other one
Well this is fine.Dont normally use it.will this stop all the signing in stuff, which can be vexatious at times,(don't know what that word means, but sounds good) ;D
It's generally much easier, and more efficient to use a mail client, David. I only ever use webmail if I need access via someone else's computer as both my domain mail and idnet.com email support auth-smtp for sending.
Same here. I can't see why only the webmail would be affected. I'd expert various sites to suffer the same. ???

Should be all automatic once it is set up David.. :thumb:
Thanks In just trying to see how to set up the notification of received mail as it isn't showing at the moment so having to check manually..
Is this Windows Live Mail, David?
Same question Seb.. I wanted to know that as well.
Im on OE at the moment, which would you recommend...on OE I have to keep clicking on rec all
Do you have a Hotmail/MSN/Live email address? If so, you'll need Windows Live Mail as Outlook Express support is ending soon, I believe. You can use it for other (non-Microsoft) addresses too, i.e. it will replace OE.
I use the newer and much improved Windows Live Mail David, it is far better than OE. :thumb:
It will import OE settings etc. automatically.
Setting up the Hotmail (etc) account should be very simple.
To setup your IDNet account, you'll find the settings here (http://www.idnet.net/support/guides/email/outlookexpress.jsp) (it's for OE, but it should be largely the same). :)
The settings are exactly the same Seb, just the interface is slightly different... ;)
It looks very much like Windows Mail on Vista from what I can see, which I must say is a big improvement over OE. :thumb:
:eek4: :eek4: :eek4: I have important stuff stored there Sebby can I import all the stuff over ?Im glad this happened now as I can get my messages saved from there I dont use the live Mail but will have to set it up I guess
From OE? Yep, Windows Live Mail can import everything over at the click of a button. :)
Out of interest, why are you using webmail if you've got it setup in OE?

If you have OE set up, it will transfer everything automatically David, it is a doddle, I was amazed how easy it was. :thumb:
A legacy from the book of "How to" published by tiscali circa 2004"this was the way I was told to do it and never questioned it.........have to exile myself again ???
Wow In.this is good, just playing around with it....more than impressed....thanks :karmic:

Check this (http://email.about.com/od/mozillathunderbirdtips/qt/et_export_to_oe.htm) out. It's for OE but will apply to Windows Live Mail too. :)
I followed it a long time ago when I used Thunderbird on Linux for 6 months, then wanted to go back to Windows. I use Outlook in Windows, but it was necessary to get everything into Outlook Express, then import from within Outlook!
Good link. :thumb:

That would be OK if everything was in Local Folders on TB, Seb. I have 14 separate accounts, all of which house the mail in different folders, so it would seem a bit like hard work to import everything, if I've understood correctly.
I think so, Simon. I suppose it depends whether you want to make a permanent switch or just try it out. If the latter, it's probably not worth the hassle.
Indeed. I may have a dabble - but Windows Mail in Vista looks just like OE to me. :)
It is basically just Outlook Express, but it looks a bit nicer, has a junk mail filter, and probably some other bits and pieces. :)
Yes, so I've just found out. I'll be sticking with Thunderbird though, as it would be too much hassle to change.
Thunderbirds are go ;D it such an easy program to use, setup, you can transfer accounts easily between machines and also you can have seperate user accounts from the same windows logon. Its a breath of fresh air after MS outlook.
It is a great email client, Steve. :)
I couldn't get on with it. I don't know why. It's Outlook for me. ;)
Nothing wrong with Outlook, Seb. :)
This live Mail has really proved brilliant for me today so many many thanks, got my headphones on and listening to my music and sitting here,no more keep getting signed out,no more having to check if I have mail and many more fun things.......... :ithank: :ithank:
i personally think that outlook (especially 2007) is really good. And you can easily set up different profiles for the same windows user!
I am happy now ??? ??? ??? ??? I think ;D ;D ;D ;D

Stick with it David, don't let these geeks tempt you back to OE .. Windows Live Mail is brilliant.. :thumb:
I know just installed on lap top, thats how happy I am ;D
:clever: :iagree: :thumb:
It's an improved version of OE, so it has to be better. ;)
