Title: Backup dial up Number
Post by: Fletch on Jun 05, 2008, 20:33:11
After last nights wee outage, i tried to get on the backup dial-up number (typical you don't look until you need it) Once i eventually found the number and a spare set of microfilters.  I got dialed in and keep getting rejected on Username and Password failure.

Any body have any suggestions?!?!?

I suspect the server that was failing to authenticate your dialup connection was the same one that was failing to authenticate your ADSL connection.

can you connect to the dialup service now?

Were you putting in the "@" part of the username? I don't believe that's required. :)

AFAIK, the dial-up number should work regardless of the ADSL status.

Plugwash .... Yip, I've just retried tonight.  Didn't want to look to much a fool.  I emphasize TO MUCH

Sebby ... So do i put in just before the @ or do i just drop the @ and put the lot in  .. ??

I think it's the part before the @ sign. Was this what you were doing?

Try user.name@idnet.gw5
With my particular user.name being on gw5 I have just got dialled in at a whopping 16.8 kbps  :eek4:
using this number: 0845 602 1131 but it worked. :thumb:

taken from IDNets website

IDNet offer a dial up number should you require it. The service is charged as an internet call via your BT phone bill at the standard 0845 'local' call rate per minute. To use the service you must have caller ID enabled on your line.

Dial up number: 0845 6021131

User name/password: enter the same User name and password provided to you for ADSL connectivity.

do you have caller ID enabled?

LesD ... That's what i was trying last night.  That and my standard password.

Error message said "Access was denied because username and/or password were invalid on this domain"

Nope i'm ex Directory ... so it's blocked!
But i have caller ID at this end on .. so i can see who's calling!!

Ah, I'm wrong, you do have to include the @ part.

Is your number withheld, Fletch?

Hi Fletch,

Yes, you can add 1470 to un-withhold your number, in which case, you should set up the IDNet dial up number as 1470 0845 6021131.

By the way, as no one has given you one yet, have a welcome Karma!  :welc:

And one from me... :karma:

Yep, putting 1470 before the IDNet number will remove the withheld number. :)
