Title: IE 6 Autocomplete file?
Post by: scook94 on Jun 03, 2008, 15:46:27
I'm wondering if anyone knows where IE6 stores the Autocomplete data, specifically text stored in forms?

I'm assuming it's in a "something" .dat file?

Just had a quick wander though Docs & Settings and couldn't see anything obvious, Steve, so I'm guessing you're right, it's in an obscurely-named dat file.

I've got a new laptop for work, and busy trying to copy all my stuff over to the new one. One of the things we use for work is a web based application to update service request status. With IE set to save forms data I have a record of all the service request I've updated. It would be handy if I could transfer that data across, but no big deal if I can't. I just can't figure out where it's stored by IE...

Take a look here particularly at the UPDATE as it seems that it may be or some of it at least is held in the registry.

Stolen, so not sure if it will work, Steve, but...

Hi Not sure if this can be done, but the information is held in the following registry keys...

AutoComplete, User Names and Passwords on Forms:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW

    AutoComplete, Web Addresses:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider\<user name or windows logon name>

You may try exporting and importing these keys? After doing a registry backup of course.

Thanks Les. I'd actually come across that page myself but it's not so much the saved passwords I'm interested as the saved forms data. It's possible that this is also in the registry but I've looked and can't find it, unless of course it's also encrypted like the passwords...

Ah, further down that page there's info that says it is indeed encrypted in the registry. I'll check it out in the morning...
