Title: Excessive Sessions error followed by poor speed !!
Post by: Dont mention Talk Talk !! on May 27, 2008, 00:06:39
On saturday my connection on my hgv2700 showed green and all appeared well , but i couldnt search anything and i kept getting white screen saying page couldnt be found. I powered the router off for 20 mins and rebooted. Green lights showing , but same non searching as before. In the log it said EXCESS...SESS. Then I got a screen from BT saying excessive sessions error. I hit the continue button and it said problem corrected and i was able to search once more. Only thing is that normal 6800k+ is now waddling along circa 2800k  >:(

anybody got any insight into this ? router stats are 8128 / 448 as normal , but download speed is dire.

The most common cause is Bittorrent or other P2P app that opens multiple connections. Do you use any?

It could be a virus, but unlikely. The alert can be switched off on the advanced firewall page. It's nothing to worry about if you're sure you don't have a virus or malware.

Do you use any peer to peer apps?

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3782 kbps

now that aint the norm at all

I have bittorrent on my pc but dont use it much.

That's not normal. I suspect BT are at it again; someone was experiencing slow speeds yesterday, whilst others on the same gateway were fine.

The excessive sessions won't be related. That's a mystery if you're not using apps that have numerous connections. Could anyone be using your connection? Is the wireless secure?

That could well be it. As far as the excessive sessions goes, I'm not entirely sure. :(
