Im taken a few minutes between tiling the bathroom.I lost my Firefox bookmarks recently they just disappeared, any way I struggled to find them and in desperation posted (I think the first time,on TB) anyway the genius of the web Rik replied and told me how to find the missing folders and bookmarks but I typed in the search and they were not there,I think this was yesterday (I have laid 350 tiles so forgive me if Im a day out,any how I have just searched all folders and located them.
Is there a way I can restore this,or would it best to just copy each one!!!!there are a lot,and simple solutions.
I did not like to admit that I could not follow Rik's solution it was a tad complicated to me at least.I am hoping that there is a "Move" or "restore" button if not l will I guess copy them as they are important.I am relieved I have not lost them completely yet :fingers: :thnks:
OK, so you know where the bookmarks file is, David? All you need to do is open Firefox, then go to Bookmarks > Organise Bookmarks, then in the Bookmarks Manager window, click File > Import > From File. Click Next, and navigate to where the Bookmarks file is, highlight it, then click Open, and it should import the bookmarks.
Thanks Simon I will follow this,I was :-[ to admit once again that I was baffled and :fingers: :thnks:
It's easy when you know how, David, and I don't say that often! ;D
I'm glad you got your bookmarks back, David. :thumb:
We don't know that he has yet, Seb. ;) ;D
Well, nearly. :P
I havnt yet, just tried it and got a white screen.I will keep trying....

I highly recommend the freeware programme MozBackup. http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ I have manually backed up my bookmarks and other Firefox settings in the past, but this little utility makes a doddle out of it.
Is this a software problem occurring on your desktop? If so, you seem to have had a few lately involving many different programs. Just thinking might be time to start from scratch with a fresh install of your operating system and software. Sounds a bit drastic I know bit it gets rid of all the cr*p. :)
I think it could be a corrupt profile in Firefox. you might want to try deleting it, but you'll lose your settings.
You should be able to back up your bookmarks manually, David, by going to:
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
and copy Bookmarks.htm from that folder, saving it anywhere else on your PC. You could then try creating a new profile, as Sebby suggests, then import your saved bookmarks into it. There's a step by step guide to creating a new profile, here (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows).

Thanks for that very useful :karma:
It's also worth a look at FEBE. (http://customsoftwareconsult.com/extensions/febe/febe.html)
Another thought on this;
If you use Internet Explorer and have the same, or similar Favourites/Bookmarks, it is a simple task to transfer them to Firefox via export / import.

Thanks In this proved simplicity in itself,The problem which is proving difficult,is the other way round.I followed the initial advice from Rik and typed in the search box Documents settings etc...but I did get stuck when I found the folder but the folder is/was empty so nothing to import.so Im thinking that the actual bookmarks may be gone...The only thought I have (ok Im desperate)I have backed up everything on my PB store and save and am wondering if they are there.
If this seems confusing Im also doing work in the house so cant give this my full attention....I thought I had found them but I mistook what I had found with programmes I still cannot locate the bookmarks..perhaps its RIP time.....for them..I have done nothing most of my trouble began when Kaspersky updated .but I have read this is a common problem with FF.
It does seem confusing, David, and I think we need a clearer picture, so perhaps come back to this when you can give it more attention?
More likely a problem with Kaspersky David, I use AVG Free Edition, never had any problems, with Firefox, or anything else for that matter.
Can't help on the PB Store, don't know what it is.. ;)
Could it be, David, that you have Explorer set not to display hidden files?
Thanks Rik will try take a look.I get very annoyed,(with myself)as this is outwardly a simple thing to fix.
If I rewind and take out the detail.which I think confuses.and for that I apologise.
Rewind.
I switched on as per usual and went to bookmarks to do whatever. All bookmarks had gone in the drop down menu......thats the bones of it.
I will take a look re Riks reply above...thanks again

I just went to uninstall FF and on the list of programmes it shows Mozilla is there and using 37.mb in space.would this suggest that it is still in my sysyem (given the space it is taking up) if the answer is in the affirmative then I will carry on.should it not be the case will take it off and use IE in future.
Where do you mean, David. In Control Panel, my copy is shown as some 23MB, in Task Manager it shows as just under 68MB.
Im looking in control manager at the moment Rik.have to look in task manager,(if I can find it)
It shows at 27.25MB in my Add/Remove Programmes. ;)
Ctrl-Alt-Delete, David.
Beat me to it Rik.. ;D

Its a long shot, and I wont go any further after this (promise) I have just realised (and it may have no bearing) when I downloaded I tink AVG it installed a toolbar ie "Crawler, could this be the problem ?
No more question after this .
I loaded AVG with the " toolbar ", it didn't effect my Firefox David, I did a re-install of AVG and dumped the toolbar, still no adverse effect.
Fire away with the questions, we all want to help. ;)

Wouldn't have thought it could be that, but try uninstalling the toolbar if you can from add/remove programs in the control panel and see what happens.

Not sure you can do that Mad, but it is easy to re-install AVG and decline the toolbar. ;)

Ah ok - I declined the toolbar when I installed AVG in the first place - bit of a habit I have - only get the software you actually asked for, not what it wants to chuck at you ;)

Just tried but toolbar delete isnt an option afrer accepting so will uninstall and reinstall without ticking box........must admit I feel a right Prune !!
I did the same David, so an easy thing to do, I wasn't even aware that it wanted to dump an additional Toolbar on my system.
Good luck. ;)

It is a very easy thing to do David, and even as careful as I am about what boxes are ticked etc, I've been caught out a few times with things like this. :(
Edit: Forgot to mention earlier, but when you do get your bookmarks back, you may want to use a FF add on called foxmarks - brilliant add on for bookmarks, which are all stored on an external server, so that you can just sync with that server on any machine you work on. Great for me, as I swap between my lappy, desktop, and works machine all the time. Just means I can add a bookmark on any one of them, and next time I use one of the others I just sync, and there they all are. :thumb:
Thanks for all that.I have given up on this and will use IE from now on,I have left the data on my system for another day so thanks.
Back to the tiles.
