Title: I think Kaspersky may be my problem !
Post by: David on May 20, 2008, 09:44:26
Relax Im not wasting my life on this one, been having a few problems, windows media player wont respond,Notepad wont respond, and a few others.from yesterday clicked on FF icon on desktop homepage being BBC and all I got was White page with message Access denied url etc.but last night I paused protection and clicked on the same icon and got the page...I have not done anything although I de recall letting windows download latest security.so Im thinking my options.first thought (yes I do sometimes think)
Delete the latest security down loads to see if this cures it if this fails turn off Kaspersky again and take a look.....

Any comments but don't worry Im going to strip a ceiling in a minute and get the tools out (was that a sigh of relief)?

I've not used Kaspersky, David, but I'm sure someone who has will be along to advise shortly. Can you disable K function by function. That might be easier than taking Windows back to before the updates.

Yes have done this Rik and get access to site ie BBC.but the windows programmes still no response when I click onto them, thats why I lean towards the updates may be the problem...I can access all web sites so it would seem (there Im trying to develop diagnostic skills, basic but)the connection would be a windows update which is the rogue,I have not added anything new so thats why Im leaning towards this.I have removed security up dates before I think they were hot fixes or whatever.

I have just noticed, and it was not there yesterday on my tab for idnet I still have the icon but instead of Webmail it now is showing" IDNet Webmail for  pop3.idnet.com....."

There have been known issues with kaspersky internet security suite 7.0.1.325 and firefox, its template may need to be manually added to the firewall if connection issues arise (see support). However I see their are others issues such as certain programs not responding, icon titles being changed, loosing the time /date settings and awful noise once on startup. :)

None guys.still cant get the BBC homepage, but Im going to take some things off the pc like adobe elements and see if I cant get the window applications to run, will try a restore in a while, but its not all that everything is working when it comes to web pages.except for the BBC which I had as a homepage..Im racking my brains but cant think of anything apart from allowing the security updates so leaning towards removing them to see if it fixes the problem...its not one of those "Help :eek4:  issues its more me wondering why these window things wont work...wordpad,the media player and some others,as the Beeb seems to be having their own probs i can as I say ignore this one so its just finding out on this machine what has happened to cause this..and get the programmes running again.................. ;D

Hi David, I bought Kaspersky a few weeks ago with licences for three machines, put it on my desktop and had all sorts of problems. Un-installed it and the problems went away, will not let it near my new lap top so it's now sitting on my desk looking rejected and thats where it will stay (what a waste of money). :eyebrow:

Thats a shame, because I went from outpost and free avg to kaspersky internet security and I have been very happy with it on the three machines its installed on.

Kaspersky 6 was really good, but it does seem to have had more that it's share of problems since - or should I say, it's users have.

If anyone's looking for a good, not too expensive security suite, my recommendation would be F-Secure.

I haven't had any problems myself; I love Kaspersky. Version 8 is supposed to be a big step up, so I'm looking forward to that. :thumb:

You are right Den had so many things go up the wall did not think of Kaspersky.I couldn't access web pages ,like the BBC all day yesterday..Access Denied.couldn't use wordpad, windows player and several other things they would only work with the protection paused

So today took a good look in router everything is right there so took out Kaspersky and everything is back to normal all my programmes are back and working as they should be.
I don't pretend to know why it did this but Im glad its gone and I can use the pc again.
I have one machine to get it off now..........This time I don't need to blame myself.....I have promised myself not to mention probs if I can help it,but if anyone else gets these odd things happen on their  machines this may help.... ;D
Up to today I thought my mp3 player would need to go back as faulty as it wouldn't charge, couldn't transfer music files on and it would not charge....Decided before running over to Comets to try it and Bingo its all ok...so really this caused big problems for me..but happy once again  :thumb:

I suppose the problem with any security suite is that occasionally the default settings applied automatically on install do not suit every individual system especially if other variables change such as the use of a new router. I have mentioned early the related problems with kaspersky and firefox and also seem to remember some users were having issues with the proactive defence registry guard. certainly apart from the ff issue I have had no problems but there again windows own firewall sitting behind a router is probably good enough for most users. :)

Its like everything I guess Steve I think there are some things I(as a novice should leave alone) so lesson learned and no harm done...I think all the manually change settings are for people more in the know than me,anyway it is sorted now and Im glad thanks for you reply though it confirmed what I thought at the beginning so some comfort there to be right for once  :thnks:
