Did anyone else lose LCP connnection last night just before midnight mine went down at 23:59 and took until 02:13 to successfully reconnect I kept getting Chap authentication failures. BT at it again I wonder? >:( ???
It's likely to have been BT, Ray, but let me go check my log...
Nothing in my logs, Ray - so it's not likely to have been an IDNet issue as I think we are both on DSL4.
Nope, not loss of PPP here, so was perhaps BT. I'm on GW5 - are you on DSL4?
    tell me about it...
Ive been struggling with a bad line fault all week, now Ive been told that BT dont operate on domestic adsl lines outside of normal hours, so it will be monday now. Last week it was tues cos of the bank hol. :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:
feels like Im on dial up
I'm sorry to hear that, Baz. I hope the problem is resolved quickly. :(
If you will insist on dealing with a second-rate ISP, Baz. ;D :out:
dont tempt me Rik, it has crossed my mind. Have to give them a chance I suppose.
BTW you hoping to get back in the other forums ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D

joking Rik, honest, we need you over there. Its not often we get expertise like yours. :)
thats a pretty weak sell guys ;D ;D
I heard the same lines before I joined where I am now and that was 7 years ago
I didn't have any PPP drop last night either - not at those times anyway :)
My line looks like it has been a yo-yo all night, caused by massive noise margin swings as much as 8db (from 6 to -2). TIme for a resync I think as the current is 2688 at a margin of 17db!
Messy, Lance. BT must have been unplugging the DSLAM all night. :(
Nope - I think it is my line. >:(
I just resynced to 5088 with margin of 6, and then a few secs later the noise margin was down to -1.
edit: From the logs, it looks like 40 loss of signal errors in 24 hours. Not good, and I'm surprised my target noise margin is still 6!
It sounds like there's some serious noise fluctuation there, Lance.
Or you're using a Netgear... :out:
It's on my 2wire! I've had this before, but it always seems to sort itself out after a few days and any line tests IDNet run come back clean. >:(
:bawl: :bawl: :bawl: :bawl: im on a netgear too .dont give me more grief please ;D
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! netgear rule :D :D :D :D :D ;) ;)

You're not alone. Test socket time...
If only I had one...

We don't need to if you use a Netgear, Baz. ;)
when you use the test socket and you have a faceplate fitted do you need to put a filter in too

Ah. :( I assume you've done all the other basics? In which case, it's over to support.

The test socket is behind the faceplate, Baz. You don't need a filter, as the ADSL side is unfiltered. It's generally convenient to use one though, as it has the RJ11 socket on it.

The test socket is what the faceplate - be it filtered or not - ultimately connects to, though you can remove the faceplate to test where the line enters the house, excluding extension wiring from the equation.
A filtered faceplate provides an ADSL and voice socket, and all extensions are pre-filtered for voice. :thumb:

:P :P :P ;)
Don't worry Netgear users, apparently a new firmware is on its way to resolve the AR7 issues. :)
Not to mention the v4, which doesn't use the AR7 chipset.
Ah, yes, the v4 is better out of the box because of its superior hardware, but there is hope for the pre-v4 users who have problems (which not all of them do anyway).
Hi guys don't often post as usually no probs, but this morning, disconnects all over the shop, only lasts 1 or 2 mins max. Netgear DG834G exchange EMMOULT. I guess there's noting I can do except wait for normal service to be resumed?
Does anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
What is the Netgear showing in the log, loss of sync or LCP down?
What's your downstream noise margin, sync speed and attenuation?
Welcome to the forum, btw. :welc: :karma:
Hiya its LCP down
35 Db down 9.5 Db up
Currently connected 3712 (best its been all morning it has been 1200-1800
Thanks for helping
Glyn
If it's LCP, your connection to the exchange is OK, it's probably a radius server issue. Drop support an email (support@idnet.net) or phone the out of hours number (01462 476556), they can check whether there's an issue on their own equipment.
Ok Rik, I've been connected for over 10 mins now at a reasonable speed which is the best it's been all morning. It may have sorted itself, but if I get more probs later I'll drop them an email.
Thanks ever so.
Glyn
I've put a general alert into support, as it only seem to be affecting people on DSL4 (I think you're on DSL4?).
Indeed I am on DSL4, how on earth did you guess that? :D
Your IP address - it's only visible to staff, but it was a fair bet which realm you would be on as a result (I am too, as are Ray and Lance).
Off for groceries now but I'll check in later - seems like a real friendly place
Glyn
We try. ;)

As Rik says, it looks like an issue on dsl4, so IDNet should be aware now. :)
I've been in touch with Tim, they have no issues showing at their end, so it may be the BT radius servers. I'd suggest everyone affected drops support an email with as much information as possible, so that they can try and establish a pattern.
Just looked and found this although it's probably not related to the initial post.

I'm on gw5.
It might be worth letting support know, Noreen, though it looks more like a blip, just 21 seconds.
Just checked my log and I had numerous LCP losses last night between 3:09am and 4:13am.
Haven't been online today until an hour ago, but speed is slow and sites are taking a couple of seconds to start opening, and sometimes 2 or 3 clicks on links, whereas it would usually be instant.

That matches the sorts of patterns we've been seeing lately. Do you know when you're exchange is set to go 21CN?
Let support have your log and a note of the problems, they can check the line for you.

well, Monday arrived my line fix didnt. BT said they want to pay me a visit and my ISP gave me a choice of days and times. 'I'll have tues(yesterday) in the 13.00 - 18.00 slot please'.. 'Sorry its gone'.
so get wed in the same slot...........low and behold the line shoots back up to a decent speed tonight AAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH :D
but saying that, it did the same last week then went back down again. Might still see what mr BT has to say, as long as they dont bill me if they dont find anything. (visions of someone flicking the switch today hoping I wouldnt notice and still come tomorrow for some quick dosh >:( >:( )
sorry for the thread hijack
That's OK, Baz. We IDNetters have great sympathy for our less-privileged members. ;D :out:
:'( :'( :'( :'( thanks Rik at least someone cares
(makes mental note of harsh words to throw back when tables are turned) ;)
Easy on the small print, Baz, I'll need new glasses. ;D
:D :D :D ;)
I'm having what I think is the same problem when I get in from work, then it comes back a few hours later. GW5 aswell.. Coincidence?
I it still happening. The BT fault causing it was supposed to have been fixed yesterday afternoon.

I don't know yet. Its been on since yesterday afternoon though.
Keep an eye on it, if you get further problems, let support know.
Definitely let support know. No more than 5 mins ago I had a message from Simon D that the problem is all sorted. :)
Did he say what the cause was?
Nope :)
