Title: BT Speedtester Failures

Does anyone else get "Authorisation failed Incorrect Telephone Number" messages from BT's speedtester?

The number is definitely correct and I never used to get that message.

I should point out that I am in the changeover period from Eclipse to IDNet (scheduled to be done by 6PM Tuesday) and maybe that has something to do with it.

I was just trying to get some stats for before v after comparisons.

Its not unusual for the speedtester to say its the wrong number ;D they do it on purpose to mess with your head.
Seriously, as you're in transition from Eclipse, it could be that too.

I'm just looking forward to being free of Eclipse. They started well when I joined about 3 years back, but they've gone seriously downhill in the last 18 months or so.

Welcome to Idnet and Idnetters and a welcome  :karma: I am sure you have made the right move, I also escaped from Eclipse nearly 2 years ago and have never regretted the move, speeds here are good and consistent and support is excellent.  :thumb:

Hi Gordon, welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:

These error messages from the BT tester are common, and I suspect are the result of a lack of resources. :( One thing we have found is that you are more likely to get a result using IE, despite what they say, so if you use an alternative browser, it may be worth trying that. The other thing to do is try in the morning, when it seems to be at its quietest.

The speedtester often throws arbitrary error messages. The key is to persevere, and you should get there in the end. :thumb:

Thanks for the welcomes.

I'll keep trying with the Speedtester and see if it recognises my phone number at some point.

The between-ISPs transitional time is actually quite nerve racking because I simply don't trust Eclipse not to pull the plug as soon as they realise I'm leaving!

They shouldn't if a MAC has been issued and you've used it properly, so don't worry. IDNet are pretty quick at migrations, too. :)

I am now live on IDNet.

Oddly though, my download speed is half what it was on Eclipse but my upload speed is twice what it was.

According to speedtest.net yesterday, before the transfer, I was getting downloads at 4428 kb/s and uploads at 376 kb/s.

Now I'm getting downloads at 1965 kb/s and uploads at 687 kb/s.

Can I presume that things will sort themselves out over the coming days?

Sounds like you've got a 2M profile in the migration, that will resolve in a few days, if it doesn't, have a word with support. A BT test would be useful to confirm the situation.

Thanks, I'll give it a few days.

I'd like a BT test, but it's still not working. It has now moved on from the 'Incorrect Phone Number' to "Unexpected result received when querying the network to find your services connection details. Please try again shortly, but if this problem persists raise the issue with your service provider".

It's probably not updated the database for your connection yet. :( I hate the BT tester!!!  :mad:

I have the Business Max Premium. I run a home-based business and often transfer a lot of data and didn't want to have to worry about limits.

Anyway, my profile is now 'unstuck'. The BT Speedtester is now a lot more cooperative and according to that I'm getting:

IP Profile: 5000 kbps
DSL Rate: 832 kbps (UP) / 6112 kbps (DOWN)
Throughput: 4639 kbps

My latest speedtest.net figures show:

Download: 4876 kbps
Upload: 704 kbps
Ping: 54 ms

I think those are the best sorts of speeds I can get given my distance from the exchange and the way things are out here in the Somerset countryside.

I'm certainly not complaining. It's only in the last couple of years or so we've had ADSL here; before that I had to have ISDN and before that it was carrier pigeon.
