Hi, i have uploaded all my files, the website works ok off the hard disk but its coming up online as the directorys and stuff u know? how can i get it to open on a certain page, say index or similar?
Thanks
I assume your public_html folder contains a file named index.html ?
index.htm
should do it
Just noticed that the timestamps when you look at the ftp side of the idnet website are an hour out.
Yes there is Index.html but still the same
can you post a link to the site ?
http://parallel.www.idnet.com/
use index.html
not Index.html
you still do not have an index.html file present
this link http://parallel.www.idnet.com/index.html (http://parallel.www.idnet.com/index.html) is returning 404 - file not found.
You need to get that working before setting up your image links correctly
think hes deleted all files all i can see is an images folder.
it changed about 5 minutes ago.
I tried renaming my index.htm and only Index.htm and Index did not work.
obviously set up to take lower case only files
think hes uploading now as it seems to be partly working
Uploading again now
out of intrest whats it all about?
looks weird to me (then im pretty weird myself)
Its my Uni FMP - a game level
After 108 transfers they are now all failing
421 too many connections (10) ?
Ah student thing ;D
yes you need to set your ftp upload client to lmit connections.
mine does that every so often then you have to wait a while.
you could try winscp works for me (and its free)
It's getting better - keep going :thumb:
also it looks like your using uppercase on some of your links from different sites.
captives work from index but not sub pages.
use html not HTML
Some of the pages that have lower case and are uploaded are not being found
are the links lowercase?
sorry otbed as been up since 3 working
hope ive been of help
yes amazing help thanks very much.
On the page http://parallel.www.idnet.com/Captive_1.html (http://parallel.www.idnet.com/Captive_1.html) there is a link to a texture sheet at /Texture_Sheet_1.html but the actual file you are trying to link to is called texture_Sheet_1.html - you must get the upper and lower cases right on every link

the link I see on that page is http://parallel.www.idnet.com/texture_sheet_1.html with a lower case 's' in sheet but I too get a 404 not found page
Does Unix allow the underscore?

The site has been taken down for a re-modelling.
We have all been through the same learning process
Down for now, gotta change some graphics and add some pages. Will make sure everything is lower case

Stick with it, the next site you do will seem easy :thumb:
The first one I did seemed easy, Alan, but that's because it was simple. ;)
Can i put up a video on the site?
Purely as a file, or does it need any support, eg PHP?
Just a file, be nice to have it load up in the middle of the page but if not i can just link to another place
It should be OK, then. I have a PDF on my 'site', if people click the link, they get the option to d/l it.
How would i upload it and how would i link it?
do i simply upload the mpeg to the directory and link to movie.mpeg?
That's what I did.

Thanks rik, your the fastest helper ever!
That was three minutes, Stu, I aim for two. ;)
Never Mind
The site is working beautifully now :thumb:
