Title: 2700HGV Dual SSID & VoIP
Post by: EvilPC on Apr 30, 2008, 08:34:36
Does the 2700 HGV Dual SSID support VoIP services ??

I seem to remember something about this support being built in.. but can't find anything.

I do have a menu option for voice network, but no mention of SIP or VoIP...

Thanks

It should do, but you will need to subscribe to a service, obviously. I've got a single SSID and can set up VOIP on it.

Thanks Rik.

That takes me to a page to setup the phone lines, but no options for the SIP Service provider...

I've attached an image of what I get.. Am I missing something ??

True, but I'm sure secunia would list a patch maybe, companies seem so slow at patching these days, its the wait till it gets bad then do something about it idea, and in these times that bad

I've changed the 0845 to a local STD number.

Configured the 2700 and it's working fine !!  :o
Sound quality is very good, not much different to a normal PSTN call.

If I try dialling out I get  message advising I have no credit, so I've only tested inbound at the moment.
I may add some credit and see how it goes.

SIPGate offer 1,000 UK minutes for £5.90 which doesn't seem to bad !

If anyone else get's it working, email me your number and I'll call you :)

Let us know how you get on in the longer term, will you. Does it work with any type of phone, eg DECT?
Title: Re: 2700HGV Dual SSID & VoIP
Post by: EvilPC on May 02, 2008, 20:46:10
I just plugged a cheap standard BT phone in with out any issues.

Can't see why a DECT would cause any problem.. It connects to the router the same.
I've used DECT with other hosted IP Services before.. not caused any issues.

Configuration was easy, worked first time. Calls to 0800 numbers are free and a good way to test that everything is working well. Helps to make sure 2 way speech etc.

any standard analogue phone will work wired dect etc etc.

only problem sometimes happens if they need the ring wire.

oh and if anyone wants to test sipgate without putting credit on my sipgate number is 9992246

The lack of a ring wire, can it be worked around?
Title: Re: 2700HGV Dual SSID & VoIP
Post by: g7pkf on May 03, 2008, 11:03:57
depends on the ata design.

with my voipon 7050 it has "dongles" that provide the cap/res to give the ring wire.

most phones under 5 years old its not a problem.

Why not?

I am not ex directory (i am on the tps and fps) and only sipgate users can dial me with my sip id that i have given out.

combine sipgate and this forum and that adds up to a handfull of users.

Just means if someone selling something gets hold of it gives me a call it just gives me the oppertunity to rant down the phone and then rudely hang up.

I have a friend in australia that i met by giving out my sipgate number if he (hes an ex-pat) is having problems with his sipgate line he calls me and asks me to call him back. tests the internet and sipgate to the limits really.

After running tests with EvilPC it seems the 2700 will not let you dial sipgate numbers directly.

It does let you dial my full sipgate number for free though. (01525XXXXXX)

Obviosly this is my full phone number that can be dialled from everyone and i am not willing to put that on a forum.

I will however reply to a pm with it if anyone wants to test a 2700 on sipgate.

call quality seems okay a slight delay on the call (as with any voip call) But hardly noticable.

Me and EvilPC chatted for about 5-10 minutes on it.

Seems we both work in the same line of business.

Think it shocked him when the phone rang HI

So is there an 'internal' and external number, Dean?
Title: Re: 2700HGV Dual SSID & VoIP
Post by: g7pkf on May 03, 2008, 17:03:02
in essence yes.

my sipgate id number is 9992246 to connect to this number via the pstn you dial 01525XXXXXX

to connect via sipgate you can dial this number or dial 9992246 but the 2700 does not allow this number to be dialled (apparently)

i use a fritzbox ata (due to it having 3 analogue lines and multiple voip lines lines) easiest to set up ata (analogue terminal adapter) on the market IMO

After a little further testing, I get a dead tone as soon as I dial the 3rd digit.
But this only seems to affect numbers beginning with 1 or 9.

So trying to dial the Sipgate test number (10000) fails when I have dialled 100
and trying to call g7pkf fails when I have dialled 999...

May be down to a routing plan that errors when it thinks your trying to call BT services.

Anyone on Sipgate who has a internal number not beginning with 1 or 9 I can try ??

If I try this using Phoner (free SIP Software) it works fine, so it must be downs to the 2700.

The breakout to PSTN feature works OK.. Dial 5 then you get the normal BT dial tone and the calls goes from your standard PSTN number.

BT use 0 to give access to the STD system, any other first number is dealt with either at that exchange or by private routing.  1 and 9 are reserved for 3 figure number codes (150, 152, 999, 112 etc)and no public phone number begins with those numbers. The BT router must be limiting them then, have you tried the Singtel firmware?

Interesting thread... you will probably be hearing from me again tomorrow, as I have just received my 'Broadband Talk' details from BT, and have also ordered a phone from Amazon to plug into the last remaining 'socket' on the back of my 2700HGV!

Well, seeing as you asked, surprisingly painlessly actually. (I always fear the worst!)

My first task was to decide which phone to buy, and although it didn't have to be a DECT phone, I wanted one which was advertised as being VoIP compatible, but I didn't want a 'mains powered' model. (No free available sockets) It had to have a handsfree 'speakerphone' facility, and be finished in either black or silver (not white!)... aren't I fussy!  ;)

Anyway the model I finally decided upon was the BT Decor 1300, which duly arrived this morning. (Thanks Amazon!)

Yesterday I had filled in my details on BT's broadband talk pages, and received an email within a few hours advising me that my new service was ready to be activated, and informing me of my 'new' (local) telephone number. I was actually quite impressed! I also received a second email an hour later confirming my order (FREE!), and a further one confirming my pasword.

Anyway, this morning I duly plugged the phone into the splitter lead on the back of my 2700HGV, watched the green light on the front come on, flash for a short time and then turn itself off in disgust... something obviously need activating here, I thought to myself, so as BT is actually (currently) my ISP, I opened up their business broadband / broadband talk page (I am NOT a business customer incidentally) and duly entered in my new number, user name and password (I think!).

Again I was quite surprised when a small window popped up saying 'Configuration Successful' and a solid green light appeared on the front of my hub. A quick call to an 0800 number confirmed that it was in fact working, and the dial tone changed to the 'standard' tone when I pressed 5.

I know I shouldn't be surprised that it all seemed to work as expected, but I was... so there you go... one happy customer... well for the moment anyway!  :)

Yes indeed... another quite handy feature I have found is that if that even when the hub is turned off, the phone can still be used as a 'standard' phone, to make (or receive) calls... although not obviously VoIP!

The BT supplied 2700HGV hubs are often referred to as 'single' or 'dual' SSID models. This refers to whether the label on the rear of the hub has two SSID
