Title: Anybody running Windows 64 bit ??
Post by: Xbandito on Apr 10, 2006, 14:04:47
I am trying to get this piece of junk to run windows 64....but having fun trying to find security software to run on 64bit  >:(
I have windows set up (sort of) but I dont want to try and connect to the net without a (decent) firewall and antivirus.
I am using zonealarm and Kaspersky now on 32bit.....but the cost to upgrade them does not justify the hassle, might as well stay on 32 bit  ::)

So I need input from 64 bit users on what to use ??? please

This (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1836843,00.asp) article may help :)

There is also a free beta (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1926558,00.asp) 64 bit version of Zone Alarm out there too ;)

Check this (http://www.avast.com/eng/x64.html) out for AV too :)

Personally, I trust my hardware firewall and I use Fix It Utilities 6 for AV ;)

Zonealarm beta....not worth it m8....its that word "beta", I never trust anything with that word attatched to it  ;)

Beta-carotene is the molecule that gives carrots their orange colour.  It is part of a family of chemicals called the carotenoids, which are found in many fruit and vegetables, as well as some animal products such as egg yolks.  Carotenoids were first isolated in the early 19th century, and have been synthesised for use as food colourings since the 1950s.

Biologically, beta-carotene is most important as the precursor of vitamin A.  It also has anti-oxidant properties and may help in preventing cancer and other diseases.   ;D ;D ;D

Apart from these issues - would you mind posting how you find xp64 please?!!?

I'm considering moving to it later in the year when I upgrade my whole comp - the other option is to wait for Vista but that'll be next year, and even the you'll still practically be a "beta" tester for the first 6 months!

I've heard that the worst thing about 64bit is trying to find drivers for some things - but as I dont have many periferals I doubt it'd cause me many problems.

So if anyone's got experience of going 64bit, it'd be nice to hear about it :)

Pfffttt "cough" Intel "cough"  :P

Divo.....I am sort of running it, I have set it up as a dual boot (but I hardly use it) drivers for some of my "toys" are non-existant.
One thing I will say though, it sure does run sweet, I have blitzkrieg 2 running on both xp 32 and 64.....and its on 64bit that the game runs sweetly.

Its not only drivers thats the problem, some programmes dont want to run on it neither, nero is a bit of a hit and miss, sometimes it will run and sometimes it just plain refuses  ::)

Will post more, when I use it more (in other words, find some drivers for it)  ;)

It`s the choice of the majority of personal and business users worldwide ... yer not gonna tell me your against mankind now Ban, are u m8? ;) :D

Hey, listen, I challenge any single individual to be sat in front of a PC, both identical in every way except the processor, for the individual to do the same things on each PC and then proclaim which one has the Pentium and which one has the AMD. Yep, Sisoft and 3dMark et al can tell the difference, but as human beings, we can`t ... full stop ;)

Hey, you gets what you pays for ;)

Seriously, I`m not particularly bothered what`s under the hood. If it works and serves my purpose, Netto could manufacture it for all I care :D

I have XP64 installed along side, XP Pro and MCE 2005 multi-booting using system commander.

XP 64-Bit seems to work well for me..

Not noticed any improvements in normal apps, but have found a couple of TV tuner programs don't seem to be hogging all the resources..

For gaming - FarCry look amazing running in 64-bit mode.

If there is anything specific you wish to know.. just ask :)

I've had an Athlon 64 from a week after it was launched.

I used Win 64 and Suse Linux 64 for several months after, but got really fed up with the restrictions imposed by the lack of 64-bit  drivers.

I then reverted to running 32-bit Windows and 32-bit Linux and just didn't bother to 'upgrade' to 64-bit Windows because of the driver situation. IMV the 64-bit driver problem is still widespread and I don't intend putting myself through further pain.

As I don't like paying exorbitant prices for inferior technology, I never buy Intel.  ;D
