Title: Autopatcher is back
Post by: cavillas on Apr 21, 2008, 09:43:11
Thought you might like to know that Autopatcher is back. :thumb:
http://www.autopatcher.com/

With this you can download direct from MS site and have everything packaged right up to date with all MS updates for Windows and Office plus a load of extras.  You download the once so if you want to reinstall everything is on your machine right up to date ready to install rather than auto download.

It enable you to downloads MS patches, rather than run the update process. Handy if you have multiple machines or want to store them against a fresh installation.

Scan used to use it for patching new machines before they sent them out. You can imagine that, with the numbers they processed, the service was invaluable.

I use it very often.  I regularly re-install windows about every 3 months, and find Autopatcher invaluable.  I also have to update some of my friends machins at times, they are on dial-up (beleive it or not) and this makes sense to use autopatcher.  It also gives you some things that are useful but hard to find on line eg IE spell checker, and other MS goodies.

As you see I am a great fan. :solved:

Many thanks for this very useful information. I didn't even know it existed. I do a clean re-install every year so it will be invaluable for next time.  :thumb:

You're all most kind, thankyou. :thnks:

It ends up  big initial download of about 1.2Gb if you want everything for xp and office but still worth while.  It also has downloads available for Windows 2000 and Vista  both in 32bit and 64 bit.

No, but it means you don't need to use Windows Update. To use WU in Firefox, I'd recommend getting the IE Tab add-on. ;)

For the last couple of years I have only used Firefox to update windows XP, I never realised that at one time you could not.

That's the best way, Alan. Less to worry about if you don't know it won't work. ;)
