Just added a couple of sticks of memory from 7Day Shop, a matched pair, came with lifetime guarantee.
I also purchased a new graphics card as mine was a cut down version of an NVidea 6600, with no DVI, added an NVidea 7200, with DVI, all went without a hitch, which makes a change for me.
Yet to try the DVI, fingers crossed. :fingers: :fingers:
For some reason, I could have sworn the subject said Rum and graphics card. I was just trying to work out the possible connection... ;D
DVI is nice. :thumb:
Sounds good, In. My monitor is connected by DVI - it's great. :)

What's the difference and is it substantial?
You're using a digital signal end to end, so there's no conversion losses and everything is just crisper and more stable.
As Rik says, it's digital to digital. When you use VGA, it's digital to analogue and back to digital, so there's some loss.
Oh right. Well time to invest in a DVI cable then. They expensive?
£2.93 + p&p do you?
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=84594
Done! >:D
Well not done as I'm not paying £5.95 P&P for a dam cable!!!!!!
The p&p is always the pain. You should have ordered some SD cards while you were there and spread the load. ;)
Wait a minute I just looked behind my monitor and I have a standard VGA adapter but no DVI slot. Only DVI is coming from my graphics card but I have a adapter on there. Does this mean I can't use DVI?
If the monitor has no DVI socket, you can't use DVI. Doesn't the monitor have a manual or on-screen display? That should indicate what your options are.
No I got in with the computer a year or so ago and threw the manual out! Very strange that it doesn't have one. Oh well.
Who needs manuals anyway, Steve?! ;) ;D
Yeah I like doing things the hard way. :comp:
Still annoyed though that it doesn't have a DVI port as it's a fairly new monitor.
A lot of monitors still don't come with a DVI port, believe it or not.
Indeed Seb, my set up was the other way around, have both VGA and DVI on my monitor, bot only had a VGA port on my computer, I will give the DVI a spin in the morning, fortunately my Dell Monitor came with both VGA and DVI cables. ;)
I think DVI is becoming more and more standard on graphics cards, though a lot of the lower-end monitors only have VGA.
I've got a pretty standard motherboard with onboard graphics, which has DVI only. We seem to be seeing a move towards this newer technology (which, believe it or not, has been around since about 1999!).
Let us know if you can see a difference. :thumb:
When I bought this PC both monitor and graphics card had only DVI and I got a VGA cable  which, as it was 6pm meant a trip to Curry's (no were else open) to pay there ridiculous prices. :rant2:
That must have cost a small fortune. I got a good Belkin one off eBuyer for £9.99 IIRC.

£24.99.
:eek4:
Reassuringly expensive. ;)
It was the only way I could get to play with my new toy that night.
New toys should come with cables, imo!
It did.
Wrong one
They did send it later though :(
Oh well, at least you have a spare, I guess. ;(
The one I bought had the gold coloured connections, as opposed to the one sent with silver coloured, and the Curries one was more solid and heavier, so a much better cable.
So, some good came from it. :thumb:
I won't tell you how much I paid for my speaker cabling, oxygen-free copper, silver plated... ;D
:eek4:

Indeed, it is so bloody annoying to find that you cannot use something out of the box.
There's no excuse either, In. What does a cable cost a manufacturer when they are buying them by the thousand? It's like cameras coming with no memory card (or one which is ridiculously small).
Agreed, or the printer that doesn't have a USB Cable that would cost the makers about 10 pence ... grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I think it was an error, as they sent the wrong one, and did apologise and send a new one when I rang.

That one is classic, and you wonder why they don't understand the annoyance it causes.
OK, all up and running via the DVI input on the new graphics card, a significant improvement. :thumb:
That's great. DVI is just crisp by comparison to VGA, it's much more relaxed on the eye.
Just one thing that I have noticed, not a problem, is the background on here has taken on a very slight pink tinge, that I recall being discussed yonks ago. ;)
It's because the colours are purer, In. It's actually an optical illusion, if you measure the grey it's neutral, but the blue/green around it gives it an apparent tinge. After a while, like tungsten lighting, the brain ceases to note it.
It makes a change for my " brain " to notice anything..
Something to do with grey and grey matter.. ;D
Pink is this year's new grey. ;)
Oh, I forgot, the RAM was branded as " Celenade "...strange, never heard of it, a quick Google reveals that it is an anagram of DaneElec, and is made by them, much clearer now. ;)
I thought maybe it was a bad translation for Serenade. ;D

Maybe it's time to go back and take another look at them wallpapers again? ;)
As long as it isn't lemonade .. ;)
Were the sticks sticky then, In? :)

They were in a " sticky " position to access Rik.. ;D
:basil: :basil: ;D
You could always try to fix it with a bandaid ;D
:grn:
:thnks: ;D
