I have set up a rule (filter) in Outlook 2003, to move mail to a particular folder and to play a sound. When I test it on mail in the inbox, it works perfectly. Once it's working on live mail, however, it keeps playing the wrong sound.
I've deleted the rule and started again from scratch, but while the mail gets moved correctly, the sound is always wrong. It's the first rule in the list, and the sound is wrong even if only one mail arrives in a pass (iow, it's not, apparently, another rule playing the sound). Oh, and I've exited and re-started Outlook several times too...
I can't think of anything else to try. :hlp:
Later...
I removed the sound from the rule, and it continues to play anyway! :stars:
Rik, try this http://www.josh.biz/tech/4-outlook-play-sound.html
Thanks, Glenn. I think I've done most things they suggest but I'll try recreating the rule from scratch, following their instructions. :thumb:
Rik, it sounds (not the best word) like the sound is the new mail sound, so it''ll playing regardless of the rule...
Got it in one, Sebby, I'd been so busy looking in Outlook, I didn't check the system sound. Mmm. Now i need to work out why it plays the correct sound when I test, then ignores that and uses the system sound. Maybe the cure is to kill the system sound...
Hard work, from reading Glens link, apart from setting up one rule for moving mail you then have to setup another rule excluding them from the general rule for all new mail "sound".
Or just kill off the system new mail sound.., ;)
Move the sound file that you don't want out of where it is, Move your new sound file to where the old one was, and rename it to the original one. Job done.
Just have a look in sounds in Control Panel. It should be fairly easy to identify. :)
This all sounds far too complicated to me. ;)
:bed:
The irritating thing about all this is that I have other rules doing much the same, with other sounds, and they work... :bawl:
Wish I could help, but I haven't used Outlook for years. :-\
Having started from scratch, using Glenn's link, I still can't get it to work - other similar rules are fine. I'm beginning to think that there is an old version of the rule hanging around, but invisible.
It might be worth creating a new profile, Rik. Move the data files over, then re-do the rules.
I was beginning to think that. Or try deleting all the rules and start afresh, or just ignore it. :)
Just put a little bell on the side of your comp Rik, give it a ring as required..sorted. ;)
That seems to work. I found one on an old Victorian coffin in the garage... ;D
Was the coffin from Transylvania?
No, it was from my great-great grandfather, who was a coffin maker. ;)
