Title: power supply to modem
Post by: merlin on Apr 09, 2008, 17:18:29
using a netgear dm111p  adsl2+modem, is it necessary to keep power on all the time like a router

or can it be turned off when not in use, without it being seem as a fault ,and so lowering the speed

thx

Just power it down with the PC, Merlin. Providing you don't do it 10 or more times an hour, you should have no problems. If you do, the PC will probably give up before you get a profile problem. ;)

Is this a pure modem? I know it's ethernet, but I'm wondering if it disconnects from the exchange when you shut the computer down. If it does, you may as well switch it off. If it doesn't, I'd personally leave it on all the time, but there's no harm in turning it off, so long as you don't do it lots of times in the same hour. :)
