Just connected yesterday and really only want to know if these stats are okay or if my speeds are likely to improve. I have to say that the speed, as it is, is very stable and the QoS reported by MySpeed is 99% which is a great improvement on Tiscalis 48%. I was on their Max package and though sometimes achieving download speeds in the 5-6 Mbps range it was very erratic and the norm was mostly below 1 sometimes up to 2.

Your stats are excellent, Jane. You're sync'ing at the highest rate possible, and your noise margin still has a good amount of room.
As for your speed, the best thing to do is a BT speed test (http://www.speedtester.bt.com) as it's the most accurate and will also tell us your profile, so we can make sure it's correct for your sync. Warning: a lot of patience may be required to get it to work! Please post the results if and when you get them. :)
If everything looks fine but speeds are a little low, it may just be a case of some MTU/RWIN tweaking.
Hi Jane
As Sebby says, you're connecting at the highest possible speed with some headroom on the noise. If you can do a BT test, I'm pretty sure we will find that you are on a 2000 profile, which should rise to 7150 after a few days.
Here they are then
The Performance Tester is now testing Broadband connection. Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 2000 k
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1872 kbps
So does that mean I am stuck at 2000kbps?
Jane
Yep, you're on a 2000k profile, but don't worry, this happens on all fixed-rate to max migrations. In 5 working days it should increase to 7150. If it hasn't, let IDNet know and they'll get BT to do it manually. :)
So, if you're happy with your speeds now, wait until the profile changed. ;)
Just for a few days, Jane. BT brings people in on the 2000 profile and then adjusts from there. It should take 3-5 days maximum.
That's great then. Yes I am really pleased so far and I am more than happy with my speed but just had to check it out.
Thanks for the comments. I'll wait and see what happens over the next week or so.
Cheers
Jane
Let us know. :)
I hate these people with stupid stats.

Really though thanks I will post back.

Got the " smilies " sorted as well Jane, a good day for you. ;)

Good lines come to those who wait, Danni. :)

I hope you're right, Rik
Well, if they don't we can always blame Colin. ;)
True :D

I've been trying that stupid tester for days with no luck, I guess they must like you ;D
What browser are you using, Garry. People seem to have more luck using IE than anything else. People in the SW seem to have the most problems.

Vista & IE7 on my laptop and main desktop machine, I did boot up an xp machine with IE6 last night and it wasn't any better, always just says test error
Mmm. Is your Java up to date?
You just have to keep trying, again and again, usually. :(

And of course to demonstrate the sorts of speeds you will get with those stats Jane. ;)
Nice. 8)
Nah rubbish stats.
try disconnecting all wires from your nte-5 and retry. dont forget to cut them so short you cant reconnect them the main ones are the hidden ones behin d the faceplate. ;D
routers are now truly wireless.

Ah, now we know why you don't get such a great sync, Dean.

Looks like the line has started to find its feet so to speak. That's more or less in accordance with what has been quoted for my line
Jill has already asked me to keep you lot in line when she's away. I am beginning to see why ;D
Jane
Hi Jane
Have you tried a BT test? That will confirm the profile, which has clearly risen already. :)
Dare I? It upset someone last time. Nah, why not.....

If ya got it, flaunt it
Jane
Looking good, Jane, your line is set to go flat out. Your throughput is a bit low for the profile. That could be exchange congestion, background activity, eg email, or a need to tweak. Are your running XP?
It could be exchange congestion considering the time of day. No email unless Mailwasher was making a background check at the time.
I have Vista on this machine so no good tweaking MTUs.

I'm happy as it is and it's still training (isn't it?) but if you do have any ideas I will try them.
Before you ask I only have one telephone and the old type BT box but I have just got a new adslnation filter.

Yes, we'll need someone to sweep up while Jill's away! ;D :out:

Round here, Jane, it's probably better to qualify a remark like that. >:D
I think just let your line settle is the best advice at the moment. It's doing a lot better than mine iac. ;)

I know. That's why I didn't >:D
Seriously, I have noticed that you do have to be very careful what you say, or don't say even. Some people make up their own versions regardless.
I can do that........
and thanks again
I'm not worried. A lot better than the dreaded Tiscali whatever happens and a lot better than I would have expected for Cornwall. We don't get much of anything down here........oops! I did it again didn't I?
>:D
