No idea, Noreen, but if it just needs an ICO file, I can knock one out for you.

WOW!!!!!  you learn something every day as they say. dont know if this helps, it works in XP for me.

from http://www.itexpressions.com/desktopshortcut.shtml (http://www.itexpressions.com/desktopshortcut.shtml)

seems its very simple Noreen

Placing a website shortcut on your desktop

You can place frequently visited websites on your desktop by clicking the icon next to the websites url in the address bar, holding down mouse button and dragging the icon to the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

This will cause the open window to minimise and show the desktop.

While still holding down the mouse button, drag the icon to wherever you want to place it on your desktop and release the mouse button.

Your favorite website is now a desktop shortcut.

Sorry about that - site advisor had somehow got disabled. However, viewed the site details and it seems like the downloads tried by mcafee are green (ok) There are some reports of spamming and phishing, but not many................

Noreen,

Get Rik to email you the .ico file. Once you have this, save it somewhere on your computer. Right click on the idnetters shortcut on your desktop and select properties. Go to the 'web document' tab and then press the change icon button. Navigate to and select the ico file you saved from the email, ok the screens and that should do the trick!

Thanks
Lance

Thanks folks, I've actually solved the problem with help from another forum. Favorg DOES work with Vista, so I installed that and ran it. Then I right clicked on the IE shortcut for IDNetters that I already had on the desktop then clicked on Properties to Change Icon. Then I browsed to the Favorg folder, found the IDNetters icon there and clicked on it and that replaced the IE icon. So now I have a sparkling new shortcut link to IDNetters on my desktop. ;D

I started messing around with the text size for the shortcuts and now the icon has reverted back to the IE icon. Nothing I do gets it back as the previous process now doesn't work.  :bawl:

Have you tried deleting the shortcut and creating a new one, Noreen?  Also, once you've created the shortcut with the desired icon, you can't then move the .ico file from where you originally stored it, and browsed to it, if you see what I mean, or the desktop shortcut won't be able to find the icon.

Just use the icon file I sent you, Noreen, that should sort it.

Strange thing happened later though. I installed my old copy of MS Works and that caused the the icon to revert back, so I just changed it again and it's been OK since.  ???

Possibly it kicked the icon cache in the process, Noreen, or reset default file associations. I used to see that happen quite a lot till I got the machine 'finished'.

Noreen, for reference, you might find this Vista Compatibility List (http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List) useful.  :)
