The Dutch born Chief Executive (CEO) of BT Group, Ben Verwaayen, has been presented with an honorary knighthood for his work in the UK's telecoms industry and helping to get broadband off the ground:
"I am honoured to receive the KBE. For me, this is mostly a recognition for the people in BT who have not just transformed a company into a true global force, but also enabled the creation in the UK of one of the most vibrant broadband markets."
The mind boggles. ???
Spoken like a true politician, eh. :(
Are you sure it said 'force', or was it 'farce'?
This kind of thing really annoys me.
At the end of the day, all he's done is his job, for which he has no doubt been paid very handsomely already.
Meanwhile, there are countless peeps across the land giving their time and money to help others day in day out, and they will hardly get recognised for it - completely the wrong way round in my opinion.
Sadly, the honours system is fundamentally flawed and a tool of the establishment. :(
Still, he does get problems sorted if you contact him directly, so it's not all bad...
:back:
I have to agree there, Sebby, as we saw graphically illustrated not so long ago.

It is an absolute farce TBH, especially when you can serve a prison sentence and still keep the title.
Ah well, we're not likely to be offered one, In, so that will save us having to go to prison too. ;)
True, and if I was, I would politely decline. ;)
I wouldn't mind becoming a Lord, think of the daily allowance you can claim!! ;)
