Hi
A question for some advice about speeds and profiles.
I joined idnet on the 11 March and until 23rd my profile
was 2000 so the maximum speed I was getting was 1.8mb.
On Saturday 23rd my profile changed I presume as I started to
get speeds of 5 to 5.5mb. This was good until last night when
I had a couple of disconnects, after that my router re-synced at
about 5mb and my speed dropped to 4.6mb.
Today I noticed that my speed has dropped to around 3mb and
my profile is now 3500. (by some miracle I got the BT tester to work)
My router has re synced at 7296 - the question is will my profile
increase again automatically (and how long should this take)
or do I need to do anything or get idnet on the case next week.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7296 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3240 kbps
router info
Line Mode G.DMT Line State Show Time
Latency Type Interleave Line Up Time 00:00:12:13
Line Coding Trellis On Line Up Count 1
Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 7296 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 14.3 dB 26.0 dB
Line Attenuation 12.0 dB 6.0 dB
Output Power 13.8 dBm 12.0 dBm
Sorry about the long post and thanks for advice in advance. Beforehand my speeds varied
so much I was grateful for whatever I got!!
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark,
One of the techies will be along to confirm this later, but I believe your profile should recover over the next few days. The disconnections some people have been experiencing, appear to be due to BT work being carried out, which was supposed to have finished on March 20th. There's little IDNet can do about this, but if you are still having problems by Monday, I would suggest a call on 0800 0267 237, or an email to support@idnet.net, as they can carry out various tests which we can't do from here, and possibly give BT a kick on your behalf. :)
Hi Mark
have a read about profiles etc here on Kitz (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm)
Many thanks - that is a great help
Cheers
Hi Mark
Short answer, your profile will recover automatically, but it takes up to five days for this to happen. :(
Thanks - yes it has already risen to 5000
;D
You're way ahead of me already. ;)
As others have said, your profile will recover by itself. But, the underlying problem is your sync rate, which would seem to be varying wildly.
I suspect the issue is noise being picked up by extension wiring. Could you give us some further details about your setup? :)
I have relocated my router so it is only sitting of a BT socket hanging out the
wall and not on an extension cable connected to the socket hanging out the
wall! But when I had the lower sync rate on Thursday we were have power problems
in the area.
During my many days at pipex my sync was never really a problem and used to sit at about
7mb. Also before the dreaded tscali took over disconnects were rare and I managed at
one point 42 days without disconnecting, until I finally switched off when I went on my hols.
I realise that the wiring is not perfect and due to the design of the house the router
has to sit the other side of the house to the master socket, so I will never get a really
super duper d/l rate (I am also about 1km from the exchange).
I will see how it goes and get back if I have continual problems. A steady d/l rate
of anything above 4mb is total luxury for me compared to the past! ;D
Many thanks for all your help this a bit of a learning curve for me at the moment! ???

Just to let you know, sync is nothing to do with an ISP, so the fact that you've had some fluctuation recently is not to do with IDNet. Still, you mention that you've had some power cuts, so perhaps this is the cause of the instability, and in fact things are normally stable at ~7Mb. :)
If you maintain that sync, Mark, your profile will rise by 1Mb. If you can maintain stability, your noise margin will start to reduce, and you have another 1Mb if you get back down to 9db or better.
