Title: Can't get RouterStats to play ball with my 2700
Post by: Cookiemonster on Mar 27, 2008, 23:46:51
I've had a look around but can't seem to see any help with the above subject. I can't seem to get RouterStats working with my 2700,(Dual SSID) i can get the lite version working but really wanted the full version running. Also just tried Pinggraph and can't get that running either! I must be doing something wrong i guess. In the address bar I'm using the following..

http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=A01&THISPAGE=A05&NEXTPAGE=A01

Is that correct?

I also had trouble with the full version, but not with the lite version. Perhaps someone else can shed some light.

I think in addition, if the url Rik posted does not give the correct information in the full version 2.8 Go>configure>Router Search Text>Get Page. highlight the relevant text (just the numbers) and click the corresponding  mark button, you can also create user defined values eg errors if you wish. You should see your assigned value at the bottom of the page, then save and close.Good luck

You're getting the correct screen, you just need to mark the required text.

In what way?

To moniter my pings. Obviously when i start it there is an address bar. Do i put a website in there? I'm not very good with software. :grn:
Title: Re: Can't get RouterStats to play ball with my 2700
Post by: Rik on Mar 28, 2008, 10:52:17
Yes, just enter www.bbc.co.uk, or whatever, and then hit the 'play' arrow. I normally set the text log to record anything outside tolerance range, so if I normally see, say, 25ms, I'd set it to record anything over 40ms.

Ok thanks i have done that, but it's reporting in the graph pings of over 3000ms. when i ping bbc.co.uk i usually get 26-27,ms however today i'm getting in the 50-60s anything else i'm doing wrong RIk? maybe you should start charging me...

If manual pings are 'normal', there must be something odd in the Ping Graph setup. I'm seeing manual pings of ~24ms, Ping Graph is showing similar times, but peaking at 50 ish. A 3000 ping means you got a 'no reply' usually.

Yeah thats what i was thinking, but when i check the show full response window it shows it pinging the bbc.co.uk website but it's not showing the results in the graph correctly.

Title: Re: Can't get RouterStats to play ball with my 2700
Post by: Rik on Mar 28, 2008, 11:51:51
3000ms is what it displays when the ping times out. By their nature, pings get low priority across the 'net. Are you running anything else at present, eg a torrent?

Try a manual ping with the -n switch, eg ping www.bbc.co.uk -n 100, see what that reveals.

I take it thats what you meant? I have nothing running except my comodo firewall and NOD32. I have turned the firewall off to see if that makes a difference but it doesn't.

You didn't use the -n switch - that pumps out more than the normal 4 packets, and will give a better idea of what's happening.

Post by: Rik on Mar 28, 2008, 12:25:44
OTOH, the spike is only 48ms, not the 3000ms that you're getting from Ping Graph. That's pretty normal tbh, at this time of day, for example, pings are likely to increase as the BBC servers get more hits (ping traffic generally is given a low priority, so if the server is busy, the figure goes up). Is your line interleaved?

No the line is in Fast mode. I have noticed my SNR has risen 1dB to 7dB.

Title: Re: Can't get RouterStats to play ball with my 2700
Post by: Rik on Mar 28, 2008, 12:40:39
That would increase you ping times a bit, simply because distance is a factor (try pinging a US site, for example). I suspect also that your are routed through BT's Edinburgh POP, which does seem to have been producing some high pings of late.

Is Ping Graph still hitting 3000?
Title: Re: Can't get RouterStats to play ball with my 2700
Post by: Rik on Mar 28, 2008, 12:44:18
Here's a full screen of plots from me. You'll see a number have gone  'off the scale'. Some are when I've been doing things with a high priority on the connection, but I suspect that one or two were simply down to the server not responding in time.

What version of Ping Graph are you using, Steven?

You can attach if you use the normal reply box, not the QR box, then hit Additional Options. Each post can have up to 2 512k files, or you can do it my linking with IMG tags, eg [ img]http://stevenraffan.www.idnet.com/pictures/ping.jpg[ /img] becomes (http://stevenraffan.www.idnet.com/pictures/ping.jpg) once you remove the spaces after the opening [ bracket.

Don't suppose you have the exe. of 1.1 do you so i can try it? Only thing i can see thats is mentioned as changes are the following.

(5 Feb 2008 - Mod to reduce screen flicker)
(7 Feb 2008 - Changed the colour-selection method. Added Average Ping plot. Added Logging facility)
(8 Feb 2008 - Improved prompting for Log filename when changing ping address. Stopped URL Address list saving a blank address.)

I wonder whether it's a Vista thing? I don't, for example, have the info panel under the version number in the first screen shot, so something clearly changes between your machine and mine. John appears to have tested on XP, and that's what I'm using (and I was involved in the testing of the program).

Ignore that - I didn't have the box checked. Try unchecking it to see if it has any impact...

It never occurred to me that Vista would block it, but I suppose if John's software (I think he uses Delphi) is not 'Vista aware', it might not be making the calls the right way.

Yeah tried that Steve, same results. Well I'm happy with Vista I'm afraid. Don't think I've had one BSOD yet!! Touch Wood! :back:

It would likely be a security aspect, but I regard Vista as akin to an alligator infested swamp, so can't really give much advice.

Got a reply from John. He hasn't got a Vista system as of yet to test on, but he is hoping to rectify that this weekend and let me know what he finds.

Got this response from John not long ago Rik...

QuoteAs you suspect, it looks like it's SP1 that's preventing it running. The
attached jpg shows it running in Vista but without SP1.

He will let me know if and when he has a fix for it, but in the mean time people running Vista with SP1 will not be able to run PingGraph correctly.

Thanks for the update, Steve. John is very good, considering the price of his software, at trying to solve issues, add features etc. :)

John's a great guy. I was testing Ping Graph for him and asked if he could add text logging, oh, and could he make it either full or selective, and could he put the site name in the graph and...

He just kept sending me new versions till it had everything I'd asked for. :) He should join, then we could give him karma. :)
