Title: Which Browser
Post by: David on Mar 25, 2008, 13:24:37
As you all know I was once with tis,tisc..no I cant say it,but since entering this hallowed hall of peace and all that stuff.I still have tiscali looking at me when I fire up,I have seen that there are browsers which are much more pleasing to the eye,I have looked at Avant .

When you are with any of the large isps your page is there for you but what I am trying to achieve is my simple page which will allow me to access things,If this makes sense.

Any ideas.if you can even understand what I am posting. :thumb:

Are you saying that IE is still "branded" with the Tiscali logo? There used to be a way to remove that, but since I've been an avid Firefox user I can't remember how to to it....

I know a lot of people use and are happy with Firefox (although I use IE7 on Windows Vista myself as it's more secure!).

Which browser are you on? If it's IE7 then you should be able to see a little down arrow next to the 'Home' button. Click it and choose "Add or Change Home Page."

Mine is pointed at Google.co.uk

You might want to check out Firefox anyway, David. It's a really great browser, and it'll run alongside IE, so you don't have to worry about not having IE anymore. :)

Below is the method I used to change the ISP brand name on my Internet Explorer title bar, I'm using Windows sp2 IE7.  It involves going into the dreaded registry so you don't need me to tell you to do a back up.
Hope it is of help to someone.

                       Internet Explorer Brand Name Removal.

Close all Browser windows and applications.

Go to  Start/ Run  then type  regedit and hit  OK to start Regedit, then click Edit/Find.
If your browser is called Microsoft Internet Explorer type this into the search box and
hit  Find Next.  After searching, Regedit alights on the name  Window Title   in the
Values pane, and next to it the words Microsoft Internet Explorer.    Double clicking the
highlighted  Window Title  name brings up  an  Edit String box containing the string
Microsoft Internet Explorer as the Window Title value. Replacing this with Brian's Web
Browser or anything you want should put that title on top of IE the next time you run it.
OK the change, shut Regedit (you don't have to change anything) and relaunch
Internet Explorer to check that it shows your chosen name.

I suppose it depends how heavily the ISP has branded the browser. I have searched the registry in the past in order to change the title, for example, but some go as far as changing the animated explorer logo, so it might be more tricky. I've never looked, but I suspect there's a fairly simple way to reset it all.

I'm not very techi' minded I'm afraid and don't like delving into the registry  but when I did use the method I described above I replaced the 'Provided By Wanadoo' logo to 'Provided By IDnet'.That didn't remove the Wanaddo logo in the right hand top corner which annoyed me. I found a way to finally remove it but blow me I've forgotten how to.

Good link, Brian. I think that covers all possible (or certainly the most common) ways that ISPs brand IE and OE.

You can do this with tweakui as well I think, I know you can alter what's displaced with it
