its up and running , I speedtested it on BTSpeedtester and got this

not bad at all, when I look at the IDNET site it says that Routed VC-MUX is the setting they say to use, if I change the Bridge LLC setting to Routed VC-MUX I get a reading of PPP incorrect password ???
and what about connection type, I have it set to PPP0A yet I notice there is a Direct IP (Static) option in there too , which is the one I should be using ?

btw Rik, that post of yours about router conking out again after 300 hrs, was that with a 2700HGV ? mine is the dual SSID type and my brother`s ,which is the same, has been up and running for about 6 months with no reconnects.

The 300 hour re-boot seems only to affect the SBC firmware versions, James.
You should be set to Routed VC-MUX, PPPoA. Have you started with a factory reset, and then let it detect the connection?
yeah, the only snag is when I select the vc-mux and hit save at bottom, it comes up incorrect PPP password ???

Don't worry about that message, the settings you are trying to change will be altered.
just make sure that you used
528Y - 27G4 - A222 - 22BJ - B22V in the setup wizard.
I assume you have set a router password and turned on wireless security ?
If you have followed this guide (http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=5295.msg102417#msg102417) the router will work flawlessly.
You will probably see a software update within the next 24 hours
no, im running it in ethernet wired mode , would this have a bearing ?

The router arrived with wireless enabled and open to public use, you need to set wireless security as described in the guide.
ive followed the guide as described apart from the dns poisoning. as im running the router in ethernet mode , ive disabled the wireless and ive entered the wpa2-psk authentication, the system keeps on giving me Bridge LLC.

Is it working OK, James. If so, don't worry too much - I ran in bridged mode for a while with no discernible differences.
btw, I havent entered dns servers from idnet, its select to factory default.
wonder why it wont let me select VC-MUX, there is food for thought ???

I didn't enter them either, it just picks up the iDNet ones automatically.
As to VC-Mux, don't know, I need a webcam looking at your monitor. :)

Sometimes its best to let routers have their head and ignore what it says. If it works, it's fine. ;)
The 2Wire is a strange beast in this respect. It seems to work with the wrong settings. ??? ;D
I suspect, Sebby, that sometimes the settings are right, but what it tells us the settings are is another matter altogether. :-\

No errors worth speaking of, full sync, some headroom in the noise margin. The stats are fine.

I can't give you any more than the opinion I already have, James, I think it's an exchange/BT congestion issue. I've seen nothing to indicate to me that IDNet have an issue, and I can log in to both my usual dsl4 and the gw5 realm, so I've tested across both.
I have to agree with you, Rik. I might not have the same profile (mine is a mere 4000k) but if it were IDNet I'd expect sub-2Mb speeds also, which I never get. My speeds are consistently maximum, so it has to be BT.

Oh, I don't need aspirin, I'm just frustrated for you. I'm as certain as I can be that this is a BT issue you've been experiencing, but they won't accept responsibility for most things, just pointing to the FTR. :(

It's an interesting point, Colin. Unfortunately, IDNet just don't have the right business model in place (which is a good thing). LLU can only be afforded by the big boys. Still, I think IDNet do a pretty good job on IPStream. ;)
