Title: Router issue?
Post by: Moley on Mar 10, 2008, 13:18:19
OK I need some advice I think.  Every few days (around 4 days) I find I have no internet connection.  I switch off the router and back on again, and all is well.  Why is this?  This isn't a ISP issue clearly, since once I've fiddled with the router I'm back online.  Is it my router?  (Linksys WAG54GS) or my settings perhaps?   It just happened again (about 10 mins ago) - and I have no idea why.

Moles eating through the wires, then sticking them back together again, I think  ;)

Hi Chris

It sounds like a problem with the router or its setup. Most routers are set to automatically re-connect if they drop the line, perhaps yours is not?

Change to the one Rik and myself use, you know it makes sense! Not all routers will automatically reboot, the one before I got the 2700 definitely did not. Of course being technically inept I don't know if this one does or even if I am ever disconnected, it is always up and running when I need it!  :fingers:

Hmm ok will have a look at my settings - the "keep alive" is ticked - what else should I look for?

This router you all speak of so fondly, is it hard to set up?  Checked for moles, no sign at the moment  :eek4:

I don't know the D-Link to know what else should be checked, Chris.

The 2700 is a little more difficult to set up than most, and does require a little delving in the bowels, but it's worth the effort, in my experience.
