Title: MS Word install problem
Post by: merlin on Mar 04, 2008, 17:29:52
Have installed Microsoft Word 2002, but when I come to use it, it says 'Word is not installed for this user, run set up again' which I have done several times.

But the same thing happens time and time again!

I am logged on as administrator.

Running MS XP premium

That's weird then. Can you see the installation in Explorer, ie the files and folders?

Do you just have a C drive? If not, try removing it, then installing it to a non-default folder, eg D:\Office.

i,ve finally found time to get round to this ms word problem ,tried installing on "D" drive same problem, it sometimes comes up with a dialoque box, which says in effect "you do not have permision to run this programme and to reinstall it "
googled "permisions " but none of the suggestions given mainly by MS will work.

this is xp and i am the only person on it therefore i am the administrator andshould have full permision etc ???

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290309

Not sure if that'll cover it, but it mentions installing office 2002/2003 and has some info on doing it. I've not read through it properly, but you never know :D

thx nial ,but i had already tried those , they did'nt do anything . i think the problem is in "permissions"
found out that young grandson has been on the computer again (proof was when i found all the usual school kid c*** on there)

this is despite the fact that i threatend to adjust his neck if he went near it again, and of course he cannot remember what he did !!!

RIK your reponse time is as usual,  faster than a tom cat with the vet after it !!!

you are right about a password, but the horse has gone, if i do get it working , a password that reflects my thoughts of grandson will be appropriate me thinks !!!

The trouble is, I can't think of what would cause the error that you are seeing and, given what we know has happened to the machine, my instinct is that the best way from here would be to do a clean install and then lock the machine up. :(
