Title: Regrading from package to package is actually free!
Post by: mrapoc on Feb 28, 2008, 21:24:28
Just been talking to Idnet

If you regrade up/down between any package it is free!

:eek4:

Might try supermax for a month and see how it goes!

What would happen if it upgrading now - payment wise?

Are you sure? Regrading from supermax back down would normally incur the fee??? Payment wise, i would assume it would be pro-rated to your payment period. Best speak to simon d to confirm though.

I wonder if their policy has changed then. I need to change my package tomorrow so will ask simon when it changed.

I asked Simon about this recently and was told a downgrade from SuperMax does incur a fee.

I've checked again, the downgrade from SuperMax does attract a fee.

Just to clarify on this topic,

Officially when changing from the Home PAYG, Home lite and home Max to Home Supermax there is need for BT to regrade the circuit, they therefore charge the ISP for upgrades and downgrades. IDNet have never passed the charge for an upgrade. We have in the past charged for downgrade as a matter of course however more recently as downgrades from Supermax have been infrequent we have been happy to waiver this charge. On occasion where a customer has frequently regraded between packages we have reserved the right to charge the standard fee of £15 for the downgrade.

In conclusion there is a charge for a downgrade from Home supermax however in the interests of good customer service the charge is only applied at our discretion, in the event of this possible charge the matter is discussed fully with the customer directly.

Miriam.

Perhaps another addition to the FAQ? May attract more customers to supermax knowing its not always going to mean a fee downgrading (more monies for idnet)

I'm not willing to put a 'possible maybe' in a FAQ, Sam. If the charge may or may not be applied, it makes it very hard for us to give any advice on the issue, so we'll just be referring people to IDNet to ask from now on. :(

I suspect it is a case of,  if you ask nicely Rik.

I'm sure you're right, In, but with such a policy in operation, we can't say to an enquirer "There's no charge" when there may be, or vice versa.  >:(

Yea suppose so - just i think there needs to be something in place so users arent thinking there is "a definate charge" as i thought

So did I, Sam, and I'd queried it with Simon. As long as it's discretionary, I'm not going to give people any information, but instead refer them to IDNet, because anything I say has a chance of being wrong (even more so than usual :)).

Just ordered the regrade for myself actually  ;)

I've been over my monthly allowance for the past 2 months due to heavy use of p2p  :eek4:

I wonder if the potential charge is to stop people moving up and down () every other month, depending on what they DL, maybe if it's a one of move, then it's free?
Title: Re: Regrading from package to package is actually free!

IDNet are actually charged a fee by BT for the move in either direction, Ted. They are choosing to absorb it at the moment, but I'd imagine that would not be the case if people swapped regularly.

I feel really guilty now Rik  :back:

It's their choice, Andy, I just wanted to clarify why they may charge for some regrades.
Title: Re: Regrading from package to package is actually free!
Post by: bob_s on Feb 29, 2008, 20:45:04
I can understand why idnet would need to pass on the costs that BT charge to the customer, as it could become allot of cost to absorb if it became common practice.

I recently inquired about removing my fast mode back to interleaving to perform some tests, then to possibly later with a new router move back to fast mode (this would help diagnose a possible performance problem).  But idnet let me know they may have to pass the costs on for future changes.  I never found out what the costs were, and decided to stay with fast mode (heavy gaming use) and replace the router sometime soon.

But th option to change packages where BT are not involved may be of interest.  Some months if I were not about for the majority of time, dropping down a package could make sense.

fast mode to interleaving  ....    ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Lost me there!

I have cr*ppy old PC using a PCI modem that gives a sync rate of 7.0 mbps and a speed test of the following:

Upload 379 kpbs
Download: 5995 kbps

Enough for me
