I am right at the begining of migrating from Pipex to ~IDNet and I am soo sacred :eek4:
Got through to Pipex to ask for my mac code - got put on hold with for 20 mins Finally got through to a nice guy and asked for my code. To be told i was still in contract till Dec- I said there is no way that is true, as I've been with them nearly 2 years at this address. It came out cos I phoned them last Nov about the fact they were charging me £19.99 instead of £14.99 for midi, so I apparently started a new contract when they changed the prices - but surely its their fault they were charging too much? However as they hadn't made it clear OR written it on there records its was a new contract, they are letting it go. This worries me as I've read before about pipex taking cancellation fee's from bank accounts - said this to the guy, but he said he had noted it all on the records, but I still don't feel reassured
So waiting for my code now from Pipex and then will move to IDNet.. Understand the process in my head.. get code, put order into IDNet, and it should all be done in 3 days with no downtime BUT I am so scared something will go wrong. I am disabled and need the internet for shopping and stuff. So just writing this for a little moral support. Been wanting to change to IDNet for months :) Just hope it goes smoothly
Don't forget to cancel the DD so they can't take the money and :welc: have a :karmic:
You won't be disapointed here, great service, if you've any worries or problems, give ID Net a call, they're very helpful.
I came from pipex, had a few problems, (no down time) but, ID sorted everything out.
Thanks I've already canceled the DD - feel a little bad cos I'm still getting a service from them, but can't risk it :thumb:

don't worry dissonance I am disabled as well and use my pc for very similar things to you including a social life ;D IDNet transferred me from Orange painlessly and on the day they said and I have never looked back if you need to ask anything the forum is a very friendly place, have a Karma and don't worry :) the day you transfer put your details in the router (if thats what you use) and then everything should work and you will be on IDNet.
Another :welc: and :karmic:
Panicking about canceling the DD now, as I suddenly realized that pipex have a 30 day payment thing or something :( Oh well I can phone them up and pay I guess

if they need payment they will contact by letter or phone, don't worry ;D
Like others have said, don't worry, we are all here to help, IDNet is brilliant for sorting things, should you need any help.
Have a welcome Karma. :karmic: :welc:
Hi Dissonance
What everyone else said. Welcome to the forum. :) Pipex must give you the code within 5 days, when you get it, give IDNet a ring 0800 0267237 (same number for tech support!), and explain what you want to do, they can go over any concerns with you and give you a migration date on the spot. If you haven't got your MAC by Friday, give IDNet a ring anyway, there's a 'first month free' offer on, if you tell them you're coming, you'll still qualify. :)
you'll be in good hands here, don't worry :) :welc: by the way
Hi Dissonance, and :welc:
As others have said, you have nothing to worry about. IDNet will give you as much support as you need to help you along the migration road. :)
Hi there and :welc: I was the same as you, a little nervous about the transition (I was Tiscali) but it all went incredibly smoothly. I requested my MAC code and they said it would take 5 days, however I received it the same day. 3 working days later I was on IDNET!! Fantastic here you won't regret it :)
:karmic:
Once the humour adjustment period is over, anyway. :)
:welc:
:welc: :karmic:
Don't be scared; we're all here to help, and also to ease any confusion. :)
:welc:
Don't worry about migrating - It'll be fine!
Hi dissonance. :welc:
I echo what everyone else has said. Like Moley, I recently migrated from Tiscali, and it was completely seamless. They haven't even asked me for any money yet. ;D

You mean there's an end to that? ??? I'm not sure I'll ever be properly adjusted. :-\
This is however a strange thread - 16 posts and no one has mentioned food! :hungry:

Don't worry about moving.
I moved from Eclipse a couple of weeks ago and it is fantastic. People are so helpful on IDNet, between IDNets Customer Services and the guys on this Forum. What you need is your mac code from Pipex and then give that too IDNet and they will do the rest. A couple days later you will be surfing the net with IDNet and then the only regret you will have is: 'why did you not move sooner'
Don't worry about canceling your DD. I had a Credit Card DD and I just wrote to Eclipse and my Banks Visa and sent both copies of each letter to each other and a couple days later both the Bank and Eclipse confirmed that the Credit Card DD was being canceled 30 days after the Mac Code was given. Whatever you do don't cancel DD until you get your Mac code.......you don't want to be caught out with reconnection fees..............It will all work out fine and a couple of days on IDNet and you will wonder why you were worrying
dissonance, A great big welcome to idnetters, you will find this to be the happiest place on the planet and once you adjust to the humour it will feel as if you have been here for ever. Idnet was the best move I could have made and I am sure you will feel the same. :welc:

Welcome! I'm a Pipex refugee, too. I came over this time last month and it's been the best move I could have made! Pipex took 4 of the 5 allowed working days to email me my MAC. I'd been transferred to the Tiscali LLU which I thought would be a problem, but all it did was add 2 working days to the migration date. Around lunchtime on the date IDNet said it would happen my router suddenly disconnected. When it re-connected I put in the login IDNet provided and voila... here I am! Not even any downtime (although there can be some when you come from an LLU connection).
The "official" support has been excellent - freephone number and answered within 3 rings by intelligent, informed and helpful human beings. The "unofficial" support on this forum has been intelligent, informed and helpful too (although slightly more tendency towards puns and obsession with food).
Best of luck with it and when you arrive enjoy it - I'm getting best-ever speeds whatever the time of day or night. Can't fault it. :)

We pride ourselves on making support fun. ;)
And appetising. ;D
Thanks all for your warm and friendly welcome and advice :) I too have been transferred to the Tiscali LLU , one of my main reasons for migrating, so it could be 5 days instead of 3 to migrate? I asked for my mac code first thing this morning so they have until Friday, then I can do my order.. I can't wait to be part of IDNet :banana2:
:choc: :choc: :fridge: :fridge:
That should keep the hungry on here happy for a few milliseconds
:out:
LOL what is it with you lot and your obsession with food and I have no chocolate ib the house.. not fair :choc:
Any crisps? (http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l135/Bulma_05/Chips.gif)
Word of Warning. Don't cancel you connection until you have got your MAC Code and given it too IDNet
I also moved from a (Tiscali) LLU connection from Eclipse to IDNet and it took about 5 days to move.......it does seem to take a bit longer to move from LLU......it is well worth the move.
It is great being on IDNet
You shouldn't need to cancel your old connection as using a MAC will have this effect. But it's always wise making sure that they know you've migrated away.
We just love IDNet and food. It's the "cat that's got the cream" syndrome. :)
That is " food " for thought Rik ..
There ya go, one pun as ordered.. :duck:
:thnks: :grn: :hehe:
Have another welcome from the Grand Recommender of ThinkBroadband. ;D ;D :thumb: :welc: :food2:
Welcome and if you have any problems we will all be here to help you :) . :welc: :karmic:
Hi dissonance,
:congrats: On the great decision to migrate to IDNet!
I new too, a mutineer from Tiscali with no regrets. :thumb:
The folks on this forum have already provided me with invaluable assistance. :yeay:
Hi dissonance,
Your contract with IDNET probably begins the day you are connected. The contract with your old ISP may not end then, unless you are sure you have made such agreement. You may have to pay to the end of your notice period. It is a good idea to agree any final payments to your old ISP and collection dates, or that there will be none, before cancelling payment authority. The last thing you want is to trigger debt collection because a debit has bounced. I would check this out with your old ISP.
I asked for my mac first thing on Monday morning, so know pipex are still within the five day timescale, but I hope they send it today, as I don't want to have to spend another £3.50 on their 10p a min phone line :(
A little confused when the five days starts. If I asked for it on Monday morning it should be with me by Friday morning? Or have I got it wrong. Thanks for the support guys :)
Hi Dissonance
I've always understood it to be five working days inclusive of the day you ask for it, so Friday would be the limit. I suspect, however, that you'd have to give them an extra day before going to Ofcom.
Got mac in post this morning - so just placed order :banana2: Had e-mail confirming direct debit instructions, but nothing else. I sooo hope I don't mess this up - so scared
You should receive the confirmation email with your log in details soon. They have to wait for BT to fix a migration date for you, but it should all be plain sailing. Once you have your log in details, you can set up your emails, webspace, blogs, gallery, etc, in preparation for the migration, and you can start to use your new email address immediately, but will need to continue using your current ISPs SMTP (Outgoing) server until the migration is complete.
I use a domain e-mail, so I presume I can carry on using that? It's my own domain and nothing to do with pipex
I do too, Dissonance. Just carry on using that as usual, though I do recommend setting up one or more idnet.com accounts as it gives you a fallback (and they are fast).
