Post by: Steve on Feb 22, 2008, 10:00:55
Hi

Just migrated 1 hour ago,I have never had speeds like this before Download 7032 Upload 379. I will be interested to see the evening session which was always a disaster with pipex/Tiscali

PS How do you insert the speedtest image

Hi Steve, welcome to happy land. You'll understand the purring sound that emanates from us. :)

To insert the image, after you've done the test, you'll see a second page with some options to link. Click on the copy I've highlighted, then paste it into a post, eg

[ URL=http://www.speedtest.net][ IMG]http://www.speedtest.net/result/237436016.png[/img]

becomes

Hi Steve

I moved from Tiscali this week, and still can't get over the speeds I'm seeing, evening during peak evening periods.

Speedtest.net isn't the most reliable for me - look what it has just measured my D/L at - would be very nice if it was true!  ;D

It would defy the laws of physics if it were true. :)

Some AV products can mess with speedtesters.. Norton being one.

If you want a true(ish) speed test, disable your AV for a few secs, esp if its norton.. well, if it is, uninstall it and install something better  :P

ta Rik  ;D

NOD32/ESS has been the best for me so far, use it at home and on this laptop.

Trying to talk the boss into using it on the works computers.

I'm another NOD evangelist, Paul - I've not used anything better, or smaller or lighter.

Now get yourself NOD, and you'll have the best ISP and the best AV. ;)

speedguide.net showing am MTU of 1460, registry set at 1500, router bt 2wire 2 ssid set at 1500, is this an idnet default setting? I have not noticed this before when I was with PIPEX. Did change router to Linksys to check again but still same result.

I sometimes see a report of 1460, Steve, it seems to depend on what intermediate networks you pass through.
