There I was replying to a message and my PPP session had dropped (sync hadn't dropped)! Anyone else?
no, the logs are clear here
I'm fine
Mine did, dsl didn't loose sync here either.
Perhaps I should've mentioned I'm on gw5. It's no big deal; just wondering if it was me or others as well. :)
Yes, mine just dropped too.
Yes, me too, Seb. Noticed the router lights flicking every one second for a minute or two, then the connection dropped.

It was a cunning plan to get new members joining the forum! :welc: Vorbei, have a Karma!
Mine too!
I was freaking out. I was unable to connect for about 15 minutes. I was trying test login details and was on the phone to RBS to make sure the IDNet bill had been paid.
I broke my PCMCIA datacard yesterday (dropped the laptop and it snapped) so I'm without a backup. :-(.

Why, thank you!
I always panic when I see the connection drop (because it never happens!). Thankfully it was just the PPP session and not the sync. :)
Welcome, vobei. :karmic:

I think I'd prefer the sync to drop because them you know who to blame whereas a PPP problem could be BT/IDNet/Router problem.
No way! I have a pretty solid sync, so the thought of a line issue scares me. I'd much rather IDNet unplugged something by accident.

Yeah I suppose, maybe. I'm rock solid at 8128 with a 13dB margin.
Out of interest, if I was the only person to lose the PPP session and couldn't get it to re-estabilish, what is IDNet's out of hours policy?
I'm not certain. I think you might have to wait until the morning (as you wouldn't be able to send an email, which sometimes get read out of hours). :)

Got to bed and wait till the morning! ;D
Actually, I think there is an emergency number, but I'm not sure where to find it - Rik, or one of the others, will tell you later, I'm sure. :)

Email I could've managed - iPhone on o2 edge!! I don't think you can hook it up as a modem tho which is a pain as it does offer unlimited data albeit not nearly as fast as the datacard. On tmobile I get around 1.1mbit throughput (1.8mbit max).
Bed could not happen today as I'm doing a lot of work at the moment so I'd be a nip out in the car to a hotspot or a friend's house :-P.
If you could drop then an email, it would certainly get sorted first thing. You couldn't say that for most - if not all - other ISPs.

Very true. Couldn't say that for any!
Perhaps BT Business and AOL? as I know they do operate support 24/7 but of course then you've got to wait for BTW.

Happened to me too, no loss of sync either. Out for about 2 minutes.
Thought it might be BT giving my profile a kick - obviously not! :'(
Damn I was playing and lost con so switched to netgear it was the connection in general then not my router, typical im on gw5 are the ones that lost contact also on this? I see Seb was on same gw5 as me :(
Me too. I'm gw5 too. I've had a helluva evening with my TV on computer going nuts.. after doing the reinstalling everything game and getting the BSD once or twice, I realised it was the powered USB hub that was failing so kicked that into touch, then the router seemingly goes down and I'm thinking "not something else". Actually I said different from that but it's too blue to write. So I'm glad that one wasn't down to me. :phew:

I had the faceplate off my mastersocket at about the time you started this thread, and i am also gw5.
Feel as though i have thrown a spanner in the works, incidently my speed has dropped to about 400 since i started messing with it. ???
Speed or sync, Jonny? Remember sync is not to do with the ISP. :)

I had the same loss of sync as well it came back quickly though ???
GW5 here too.
Gw5 too and I just got kicked off again a minute ago :-(.
Gw5 here as well
Yep, I'm GW5 - lost connection for a few minutes a little before 10:00 p.m..
That was about right same logs as Noreen as well, wonder what happened :-\
Okay, so we're certain it was something to do with gw5. I was by no means complaining, I just wanted to see if others were affected. I'm sure we'll know tomorrow what caused it. :)

First issue with IDNet. Its just destroyed their perfect record, twice in an hour for me :-(. Any other ISP and I'd be terrified! hehe.

IDNet will be on the ball tomorrow to sort things they always act fast when problems occur ;D
Hopefully not too busy to prod BT over my stuck profile! ;D
Just dropped again for me.
Looking at my router, it's saying the connection has been up for 1 hour 57 minutes. I've given up with ventrilo now as I'm disconnecting a bit now, plus everyone just went to bed. Ah they joys of having the rest of the week off :D
That last one was very quick so many may not have noticed. I notice it as I have yahoo messenger connected and the webcam, which isn't even being used, bleats when there's a blip so I can't miss it.
Ah well.. :bed: Bed with Russell Brand for me.. oh well just his book then..

I just gave the out of hours number a call so they were aware as well Simon just in case it turns out to be something they need to look at now, better to be safe than sorry I guess ;)
Email dropped. :)
Just for the record, on a dsl4 gateway, no issues.
An email to support@idnet.net will be looked at out of hours. Similarly, if you call the normal support number, a recorded message will give you the emergency out of hours number. That will get a response quickly.
It appears that one of our Central had a brief blip last night. We've asked BT to investigate.
Simon
Into the hands of BT, may our service be saved.

Ah yes, I remember it well. :)
Think it must have been 1971, cos we went to Spain on holiday that year, and my biggest memory of the whole fortnight is that playing absolutely everywhere we went >:(
January 1971 to be exact, I can remember playing it on hospital radio. :)
I recall a song called Dawn.. cannot remember the artist tho'

Any more news on session drops yet? There are some people over on TB idnet forum who would like to know. :thumb:
I've not heard any more, Alf.
can someone tell me what gw5 is ,??? i,m on it, is that good or bad ????
It's the gateway we connect to. If your username ends @idnet.gw5 then that's the gateway you were assigned to. I believe it was only us that were affected.
I am on dsl4, I thought everyone was, obviously only issued to the elite amongst us.. ;D ;D
It will be your turn next week. >:D
I am sure you are right Simon, I usually give the kiss of death to such theories.. :rip:
'Old timers' tend to be the ones on DSL4, presumably when the new central came on line last year, people began to be allocated to it. Simon hasn't had a response from BT yet on what happened, btw.

Thanks, Lance. My guess it that new customers after that time went on gw5, though IDNet do seem to be re-cycling some IP addresses now, though whether that includes the gateway I don't know.
