Hi all Im due to change over tomorrow 13th,can anyone tell me what to expect when I switch on tomorrow,will my connection to tiscali not be there?
As I have not had this experience before Im a little confused,ie how will I know I have finally left the big T
I also am not clear on what is happening today as this is the only place I can get onto all the others are so slow I time out.
Will or could someone fill the blanks in thanks ???
If you are using a router, your connection will drop when Tiscali "turns you off". Just put your IDNet username and password into the router, checke the rest of the settings that IDNet have supplied you with, and away you go.
Not sure if you are using a modem to be honest.

Most migration take place in the small hours and it's just a case of changing the login details in your router. However, I can't recall if you have an LLU service is Tipex, if you do there will be some down time as your connection is moved physically, as distinct from a few strokes on a keyboard somewhere.
If the login doesn't work first thing, and you can still connect via Tiscali, it's probably LLU and will be a 'working day' changeover. Just put your login details into the router once it's happened, and all should work. It would be worth your while checking that the MTU in the router is set to 1500.
Can't explain why you can reach here and not other sites, sounds a bit like the Tiscali DNS servers have a problem.

Most migrations happen in the night at there is nothing physical that has to take place, and there's no downtime. If you're on Tiscali LLU, there will be a small amount of downtime as there will have to be a physical changeover from the unbundled equipment to BT's equipment. But as far as you are concerned, you should just replace the Tiscali username and password at some point tomorrow with your new IDNet details. If you can connect, you are migrated. If you can't, just go back to Tiscali for a little bit and try again later.

It's probably down to Tiscali. It certainly can't be anything to do with the migration as nothing will have taken place yet. :)

you can deduct karma for this Rik checking router cant or dont know how to check MTU
I think it's in WAN settings on Netgear routers.
I would have to recommend just going with the simple changing the user name and password on the router.
This is all I did the day before the changeover, went to work came back and it was all working.
Then once I knew the connection was better than I had with Tipex (great name Rik, first time I have seen it). I started looking to tweak the connection to the best available.
There are plenty of hints and tips in this forum and the main posters here are very useful to make sure you get the best out of an an amazing connection. I think its called idnet happiness
Also idnet are only a free and quickly answered phone call away.
I think Rik suggested it in this case as it may have been set for LLU services. :)

Hi Rik,suddenly the speed and access came back can only put it down to tiscali,it happens a lot but cant fathom why I could get on here,still I dont know what LLU service is that one goes right over my head but have change the MTU to 1500 thanks sebby for that
LLU stands for Local Loop Unbundling. Basically, it allows other providers to install their own equipment in BT's exchange and serve their customers from that. Once they've got the system in place, the idea is that it's a lot cheaper for them (they still have to pay BT, but not as much) and they have more control. Tiscali are one of the ISPs that are overly-keen to migrate users from BT's platform to their own to save more and more cash.
I hope that little explanation helps. It looks like you're all set and all you'll need to do tomorrow is change the username and password. If you still suffer these issues with browsing speeds, we'll help you get to the bottom of it once you're migrated, but I'd say the likelihood is that it's down to Tiscali.

PS I was on a LLU Service managed by Tiscali for Eclipse and I was only down for minutes in the hand over........it was around 10.30am.....just change your username and your password and away you go....and if you have any problems, these guys on here are so helpful + the Customer Support from IDNet is the best I have ever come across...real people. I promise, you will regret you didn't come sooner

Discovered one morning I couldn't log on to my old provider, reset my system with the configuration emailed me from Idnet and away we went, really was that simple.
