Title: Missing Hosted Applications when adding port forwarding
Post by: Hudders on Feb 12, 2008, 10:39:15
I have a handful of servers that have port forwarding on to them(usual 80, 443, 25 & 21) and all work fine.  I have added a couple of other ad-hoc/manual ports to a client machine and all works fine (Messenger video/audio).
So what's my issue ?  Well, I have added a Media Center PC and want to use WebGuide, which requires a port forwarder so I can get to it from the Internet. "Easy", I thought.  I added a manual port (for example 33333) and then tried to assign it to the MC PC, however when I click ADD it never shows up in the Hosted Applications box on the RHS - no error.....just blank.  I tried to add it to another PC and it said it is already forwarding 33333...however, it isn't !  Tried a reboot, nothing.  I can add and remove Hosted Applications for the servers just fine (for example I could remove and re-add port 80, but not 33333).  I have tried adding things like Age of Empires to any of the systems....that doesn't show up either  :-[

Anyone seen anything like this ?  Is there a max number of hosted apps for the 2700 ?  somthing I'm missing ?

Hi and welcome to the forum, have a karma. :)

Sorry, I have absolutely no idea on your question, but hopefully someone will be along shortly who can help.

I had this issue when trying to add Limewire to the list, and it turned out I was trying to add it to the wrong device in the drop down list, which, annoyingly, reverts to the first device in the list each time to page is refreshed.  It also happened when I had made an error when setting the ports, but helpfully, the 2700 didn't have the courtesy to tell me what I was doing wrong.

Thanks for the replies.
I know what you mean about it defaulting to the first in the list - it also defaults to blocking everything too >:D
It is def the right device, as I grabbed it's MAC address and assigned a DNS name for it, so it actually shows in the list correctly.

I thought I had it fixed, as the common element to all of the hosts that could have forwarding enabled were assigned static IP address, whereas all the other were DHCP assigned (but NOT from the 2700HGV).  So I changed a client to be fixed, mapped it correctly in the 2700....alas no joy. Stll blank entries for any app added.

I wonder if this has any connection with my issue with Limewire?  It's in the 'allowed' list for both desktop and laptop devices, but for some reason, Limewire will only connect from my laptop.  I had it down as a software firewall problem, but maybe I should look a little closer at the 2700?

Don't forget though....this is port forwarding, hence only one device internal to your network *should* be able to receive that port forwarder from the router.  So if you have the 2700 set to forward anything on port 12345 to your desktop machine, then it is unlikely that trying to make 12345 go to your laptop is going to work....and should generate an error.

Ah, but I used different ports for the desktop and laptop (and set up Limewire on each to match).

By the way, :welc:  Hudders!  I don't want to hijack your thread, I just wondered if the issues may be similar.  :)

Oh, how weird is this?!  I removed the Limewire entry from the list on the 2700, and it's suddenly fired into life!  So, opening the port blocked it, and doing nothing allows it.  (http://si6776.www.idnet.com/smileys/scratchit.gif)  (http://si6776.www.idnet.com/smileys/dunno.gif)

It's OK, Simon, I was confused from the outset. :)

But the port is opened in the laptop settings of the 2700, and it works!  (http://si6776.www.idnet.com/smileys/crazy4.gif)

Hmm, I must say this seems quite strange. I've messed around with port forwarding on my 2700 a number of times, and whilst the interface isn't the most intuitive, I've never seen anything like this.

My only suggestion (which is perhaps a little "heavy-handed", but will probably sort it) is to reset the router to factory defaults and set it up again.

Until now...I have messed around with port forwarding and had not issues either.  I don't really want to do a hard reset if I can help it, as it's a load of grief to re set things back up again.  I may have not choice.

Well....after another reboot and fixing the IP address, I still don't see the "applications" against the PC, BUT it is working and port forwarding.
Looking at the Firewall – Detailed Information log, I can see that

pinh[75]: id 76, proto 17, sess tout 600, pinh tout 0, arg 0 natpt|user
  l: 10.0.0.148:44444-44445, n: 81.149.yyy.xxx:44444-44445
pinh[76]: id 77, proto 17, sess tout 600, pinh tout 0, arg 0 natpt|user
  l: 10.0.0.148:26000, n: 81.149.yyy.xxx:26000

So....it HAS opened the pin holes, but the UI does not show it. the 2nd entry in thelog above was for some other "app" I chose to see if it would appear. Problem is, I cannot remove them now !!
