Title: Newwwwww speakers please
Post by: mrapoc on Feb 04, 2008, 14:41:57
I dont know much about quality surround sound home theatre speakers etc. etc. but my Creative set i bought a while back are kind of due an upgrade. The bass isnt punchy enough and the surround isnt too good tbh.

(heres mine linky (http://www.us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=25&product=990))

I've been told to move away from the "pc end" of speakers and go towards home theatre. Bose from my previous POV were the best...shows how little i know. I dont have lots and lots to spend (student...pc enthusiast...expensive-ness!!!)

Am i best going for a set/kit? What make? Individual amp/speakers?

Perhaps a photo of my roomsize would help?

Its going to be for music listening (mostly bass orientated music - as older people may describe as noise  >:D)
Gaming...The latest stuff, almost like WW3 (i want bullets wooshing past and mortars shaking the floor!  :P)
Movies...nuff said  >:D

Thanks

I take it you are on about speakers for ur PC , you can get some good deals on overclockers and ebuyer where u can upgrade your sound card and get speakers for free , a good sound card helps too with sound quality.

I have a Creative X Fi XtremeMusic (currently connected coaxial out in the digital port on the soundcard).

You could do worse than Bose if that's in your budget, Sam.

Well £300 looks about my budget and i want to beat my friend's 210w rms subwoofer  >:D lol

Arent they overpriced for what they actually are?

Yes, but that's true of most major brands. ;) Bose, if you buy direct, often do 4 or 5 months interest-free credit and a 30-day trial, no postage, but that doesn't cover the entire range of products.

30 day trial you say?  ;D

I might have a look at sony offerings but they are in my mind definately overchargers.

Panasonic are too general when it comes to products (they do toothbrushes...)

Any specific audio companies will be too darn expensive (or wud they)

Well, I'd take a bet that Meridian would bust the bank. ;)

in that case, do what i've done, connect your pc to a hifi,

I have mine connected to a surround sound hifi that gives out a brain hurting 820w

I've had things fall of the wall while play war games esp when the subwoofer is on max

Was that RMS, Paul? If so, it's close to hearing damage I should imagine. My own system can produce 1.2kW RMS, but it's not used at that level, of course - which makes for a tiny THD figure.

Well i can't remember the model and can't find it on the hifi, but its a Panasonic.
Argos has a panasonic that is 660w but not surround sound.
I got mine from a music store in swindon last year.

I picked up a set of Altec Lansing 5:1 speakers for my PC and I'm very happy with the sound. The sub gives a good Oomph if I want it to (though living in a flat with the Sub on the floor I tend to keep it low).

Even so, they have more than enough range for me plugged into my X-Fi Extreme Audio card.

I live in a detached house, so my sub is often turned right up!

Remember that RMS Output and sound quality can be two different beasts.
