Title: BT Home IT Visit
Post by: Scott on Sep 25, 2006, 09:00:25
OMG.....I am quitting my blooming job forthwith and setting up to do this work and bloody undercut BT's charges !??!
Do a BB install for £50 (I'm assuming this isn't the provide and exchange work - which ought to be BTW or OpenReach or whatever the hell they're called this month)...£50 !!!! What a con to plug in a filter, cable up a router or modem and install it on a PC !!

Then there's 'IT-Related' visit...£75 for the first hour then £25  for 30mins thereafter *sigh*

It cost me £100 to get BB installed 4 years ago, in the days before wires only installs (I don't need filters hanging from every socket). The BT chap was here for approx 1 hour putting on a new master socket and extension. He tested all the existing phones still worked then proved that there was a BB circuit before he left.

I couldn't bring myself to charge someone that price, i'd feel guilty for ripping them off. Plus i'm sure they wouldn't call me again.

£75/hour was the standard charge for an HP field engineer 15 years ago, so it's not that expensive. I used to charge £50/hour for setting up Novell networks 12 years ago...

Bump. Bump. :D

I wonder how much BT charge now for home visits since they have outsourced to India.  Do they charge travelling time and return fares? ;D ;D :o

Of course, you also have to pay for hotels and food... :)

Oh, and it's now more than a month since Christmas!  :whip:

Red sails in the sunset

Make allowance for age? You write very well for a five-year old. :) :out:
