Title: how to open a 2700
Post by: merlin on Jan 29, 2008, 19:47:30
bought a 2700 off DD (we all know that one ) it was faulty , it would not recognise any dsl line ,red light all the time.
its now a month since i had a refund off DD, and i asked him where the old one should be sent, but he's not replied.
meanwhile bought a BT version from elsewhere, works wonderful.

i used to have building electronic gadgets as a hobby, reasonably knowledgable on the subject, so thought i might take DD's one apart, and see if theres anything obvious that could be fixed.

so 2 questions, do you think i've waited long enough for DD to respond??
and HOW do i get it open without breaking it ??

It clip fits together (99% sure been a couple of months since i took mine apart).

whats the fault?

If it just wont connect to adsl line look for a crystal near a screened box, mine had only 1 leg soldered (it is fairly obvious)

if your carefull you can get it apart without anyone knowing you did it.

and seeing that you can get it aprt and back together without anyone knowing why not go for it

I don't think DD every asks for his dead or broken units to be retuned, judging by other people's experiences.

I'd like to open mine to try and sort my dodgy LED. I tried, but I just couldn't see how it comes apart.

I've always found a 2lb club hammer does the job. Putting it back together is much harder though.  >:D

A vise could come in handy

SEBBY found a way to open it easily. follow this:-
lay the router down on its side, with the front nearest to you, and the badge (2wire or BT ) to the left of you,if its to the right ,turn it over.
if you've got that correct,to read the writing ,power, ethernet, wireless etc,
you should have to tilt your head to the left.

now with a thin bladed knife, insert it between the black plastic light guard, and the silver surround

now the tricky bit, gently prise the black plastic light guard towards you, until you can see two silver tags , now while keeping the black plastic bit pulled forward, gently ease the silver surround upwards , until the silver tags clear the black plasic light guard.(if it will not move up, its because you have not pulled the black plactic ,forward enough)

now gently work that opening around the two sides of the router, until the whole of that side comes off

i've just read that through and it looks really complicated, but its not really ,just looks it,

Thanks, Merlin. Another thing to add to my list of things to do when I can be bothered.  ;D

Hi g7pkf, in a word no.

closely examined both sides of circuit board, found nothing unusual, particularly checked area around the xtal , nothing found.

symtoms are :-
all lights are steady green, except the dsl light ,which is red while searching for line, then goes to steady green, but message comes up saying "no dsl line found"

used the cables and psu from my good working 2700, so that eliminates any problem outside of this 2700

tried a reset, no different, and reconfigure.

it did ask for a many digit number, then filled it in by its self ?? wondered if that is the correct number, does anyone know what this should be,(i suspect this is an ex USA model)

also there was another number which read 38, pretty sure this should be changed , but do,nt know to what ?? anyone know ??

The 38 was probably VCI, VPI should be 0.

The number is a code that tells the router the settings to use, but you don't have to change this as you can set the router up manually.

It doesn't sound like there's definitely something wrong physically. I would double check that your settings are correct manually:

DSL Line Selection:  Automatic
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
ATM Encapsulation: Routed VC-Mux
ATM PVC Search: Disabled

this is the key code you "should" use with sbc firmware

522P-22P4-6262-22AT-F2NV (well its the one i am using)

or this one

5225-2374-WG62-22AS-BJ7P

you will need to do a manual setup do not try the set up wizard

Might need a factory reset though.

as for setting up see here setting up a 2700 (http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm)
