Title: KAV/KIS 7 MP1 Standalone Update
Post by: Sebby on Jan 19, 2008, 17:37:47
If there are any Kaspersky Internet Security (http://www.kaspersky.com/technews?id=203038719) or Kaspersky Antivirus (http://www.kaspersky.com/technews?id=203038718) users here, Maintenance Pack 1 has been released.

It's best to uninstall the old version first; during the uninstall you can opt to leave the activation data in place so that when you install the new version there's no need to activate again.

If you're an XP user, you might encounter some lagging with Explorer due to an incompatibility with a MS Hotfix. There is a patch (http://www.kaspersky.com/support/kav7/error?qid=208279621) available to resolve this, but from having a quick read of the Kaspersky forum, I believe the auto-updater will take care of this for you anyway.

I hope this is helpful. :)

From my experiences Sebby and a hell of a lot on the Kaspersky forum as well, I'm sticking with version .125 till they iron the bugs out!

AFAIK, the only bug was the Explorer issue, which has been sorted, and the auto updater does download it by itself.

I'm running 7.0.1.321 on 3 machines (2 Vista, 1 XP) and now have no problems. :)

The auto updater does not download it, you have to install it manually and disable the update of program components till they release it via update, it does not solve slow browsing for most or the other reported issues Sebby, I run Kaspersky and in my opinion downloading a beta hotfix from December and disabling the update of component modules is appalling, just my thoughts, go look at the Kaspersky forum and you will see the issues is not fixed and nothing is being pushed out by auto updater, the issues are confined to XP machines only the patch you have to install is for XP only you can see the supposed workaround here (http://support.kaspersky.com/kav7/error?qid=208279621)

Let's agree to disagree.

I'm under the impression that the update is no longer beta, and it is received via the auto updater. Our XP machine received it through the auto updater and prompted me to restart Windows.

Clearly we have very different views about updating to the latest version of something, especially where Kaspersky is concerned.

I think there's enough information in this thread for users to make up their own minds now.

:)

Did you actually read the kaspersky support page? Have you spoken to anyone on the support forum? According to most people no patch has been pushed out, and many have downgraded to version.125 due to conflicts with Microsoft office 2007 and the appalling browsing speeds, there is even a discussion about downloading the patch from the forum moderators Sebby not updating via auto but downloading the fix manually, see the link here. http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=57480&st=180

I've given details of my experience, and you've given yours. Like I say, I'm running 2 Vista machines and 1 XP. One of the Vista machines has Office 2007. I've had no issues whatsoever.

Yes, I've been on the Kaspersky forum and I know people are having issues. You've got that point across, and like I said before, I think there's enough information in this thread for people to choose whether to update.

I think we should leave it at that. There's certainly no need for a heated debate. :)

Just wanted to make the auto update issue clear Sebby thats all and the answer is no, I just checked at the forum with one of the global moderators and the answer is this

QUOTE
Hi Don I hope you don't mind me troubling you, has there been an auto update for version 321 yet to patch the explorer issue?

No, but the official fix out and the link is in the merged thread, use that if you see any slowdown"

Sadly you still have to download the fix manually and disable the component update part of Kaspersky for the time being  ;) People should choose to update or not themselves as you said, but they should also be aware of the fix as well and not think its available via auto update so then they can sort any issues out by downloading and replacing that driver if they can, or if they know how to.

Okay, well like I said, I'm sure my XP machine received it as it has no issues, and the auto updater prompted a restart of Windows. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry. Regardless of who's right and who's wrong, like I've said numerous times, it's up to individual users to choose whether to update, and they had enough information here to base that decision on several posts ago.

I suggest we leave it at that. :)

The one reason i wont use this is the poor parental control software, i installed it as a test on my machine and it let through far too many porn sites or other dodgy ness in the out of the box version, maybe this has fixed it.

Are you talking about Kaspersky Internet Security? I can't comment as I only use KAV. I use OpenDNS to block things like that.

Yeah im talking about KIS which all in all is a good solution much better than norton which is a piece of cr*p, the one thing that does let it down is the parental controls.
