Title: Dream PC
Post by: Dazbobaby on Jan 17, 2008, 15:59:02
Ok, if money was no object, this is the PC I'd build... part fantasy too.

CPU
8 Sony cell CPU's on a single mobo. That'd be 64 core's, beat that Intel
Ram
4 gig ddr 2 - nothing special
VGA
2 Nvidia 8800 GTS with support for upto 4 monitors.
Monitors
3 of these bad boys - http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=128238
HDD's
4 500gig SATA2 in raid 0, or 2 raid 0 and 2 raid 1
RAM Drive
http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Storage/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2180&ProductName=GC-RAMDISK
Gigabyte do a ram drive, imagine having 8 gig at your instant disposal with 1.5gbit  transfers and zero seek times. Battlefield 2142 would load almost instantly instead of 1 minute.
Water cooling

anything else you'd like to see/change?

If the graphics cards can support up to 4 monitors, why is there "only" 3?
Seems like a waste of resources to me ;D

Yeah, why not Dual Nvidia 8800 Ultras in SLi mode? And you're limiting you're hard drives too, why not SAS drives, or at least 10Krpm Raptor drives?

For Gaming... with 4 monitors the cross hairs appear in the middle of the bezzels.

With the iRam drive, speeds from the raptor's would be toooooooo sloooooooow.

I would use DDR3 ram myself, and probably 8 or 16gb of the stuff! :)

I can never get my games to span across 2 monitors  :-\ let alone 3 or 4.

I like how it says :
Quote* - Special Price
Special in that you would have to be a moron to pay that? £600-£1200 just to change the airbrushing... as if your going to be taking it to Lan Parties to show it off or something.. probly weighs more than I do.

With a budget like that i would buy a better server and 2 top spec laptop's oh and gigabit networking.

at least then i would keep wife happy.

also the "hit" when the same kit is half the price (2 months if your lucky) wouldnt be so bad as the server would suffice for many many years.
