Title: Can someone help with my settings?
Post by: tigermad on Sep 12, 2006, 19:27:24
I have just been migrated to IDnet and they gave me the username and password to enter into the router. Unfortunately these do not work and the customer services shuts at 5.30.

Can someone tell me if I need to change other settings in my netgear?

I have migrated from Plusnet if thats any help.

TIA

Check these settings, in particular the authentication method; they should be set as follows:-

DNS Servers: 212.69.36.3
212.69.40.3
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
Authentication Method: CHAP
Connection Type: PPPoA or PPPoATM
Encapsulation: VCMUX

Also, obviously make sure the username and password have been changed to your IDNet ones and settings saved and the router rebooted (obvious I know, but sometimes people forget).

If it still doesn't work, fire off an e-mail to support@idnet.net.  Although they officially shut at 5.30pm, they're remarakbly dedicated folk and you'll often get a prompt response even during the evening.

Could someone tell me what the username format is to configure the connection, eg xxx@idnet.net or xxx etc.?.

On this note - can someone tell me how to;

a) Put a password on the router so that its a ' secured ' network - or more importantly that the guy upstairs can't leech off my broadband ?

b) Is it normal that the WLAN light on the wireless router ( the speedtouch one that idnet provided ) flashes red ? I can still connect to it and browse the net but somehow i don't think it should be red....is this normal ?

Cheers

i have the speedtouch 580, red means it has no security on the wlan, put a password on it by going into web config - 10.0.0.138 i think

I added a password and now the light is flashing orange - its colour depends on the strength on the password.

Incidently if anyone uses Bittornado and can successfully connect wirelessly ( gets the greenlight ) can someone give me a shout - am having trouble with my settings either on the router, on the torrent client or in Norton.

I think I've enabled everything but it still won't connect properly.
