Do you wreckon it was an exchange problem? esp the link light going totally off?

Is there anywhere in the 2wire logs that will give me an idea?

If you look in the events log, any drop in connection will appear at the top as a series of entries when it reconnected.

It could be the exchange, though it's an unusual time of day for that.

it doesn't say much, went to home/tech and clicked on event log and just gives a list of NTC port scans  and INF inbound session stopped ??? nothing about the lose of connection.

Stats still the same as earlier except SNR has gone down 1 and is now at 6.

Downstream Rate:     8128 kbps
Upstream Rate:    448 kbps
Channel:    Fast
Current Noise Margin:    6.0 dB (Downstream) 25.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation:    36.8 dB (Downstream) 24.5 dB (Upstream)

If all the lights were off it sounds like a reboot. Check the firmware version to see if it upgraded. Stock should be 5.29.107.12 current is 5.29.107.19

Good news is that it has no impact on performance ;D

will this keep happening and does it change any of the dns poisoning?

Time Since Last Boot:     0  days  01: 44: 07

The poison seems to work for the provisioning server that changes the username and password back to default but not the firmware upgrade. Doesn't bother me much.
If you look in the logs it likes to contact https://pbthdm2.bt.motive.com quite a lot. Adding that to the DNS resolve seems to have no effect ???
As long as the performance remains good i'll just ignore it ;D

Sealed, well...

It was in 2 delivery bags.. box taped/sealed.. and everything else in factory sealed bags, 1 2wire filter with 2 boxed BT filters (sealed)

Had a BT book in there with a CD, didnt need to touch that thou.

Had to use a knife to get into it

I was worried for a minute that your instability had returned. I'm glad it was just a firmware update.  :phew:

The CD may come in handy if you ever want to use the USB connection - though hopefully you won't. :)

The router rebooted itself again tonight.. But firmware version is the same  ???

Router contacted https://pbthdm2.bt.motive.com/cwmpWeb/CPEMgt and this forced the router to reboot.. I have now put this address into the dns resolve and the router will not update its date and time now.. Will this be a problem?

I can't see it being a problem at all. It should keep time anyway. If it does go out of sync, remember that when looking in the logs.
