Hello all
Ive just been activated on IDNet today and wanted advice on my line ive in the past got 5 to 6mb on my line...today im getting around 4.2mb on my line (better than pipex may i say). should i be expecting mmy speeds to increase over time as ive just been activated or will it remain at 4mb
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 4864 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 800 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38
thats what my router is telling me
and the bt speed test came up with 3986 kbps
Hi and welcome to the forum, have a karma. :) :welc: :karmic:
Can you extract your downstream line attenuation and noise margin from the router, without that we can't really see what's happening.
i know this might sound stupid of me but how do you do that exaclty? :-[
never really looked into my speeds in detail before
Hi Nilazz, and welcome to both IDNet and the forum. Have a welcome karma!
Have you only just gone on to broadband, or have you just moved from another supplier. If the former, you will have a 10 day training period on your line. During this time, it will try and find the best speed for your line and you will likely see speed changes throughtout the period.
thanks for the welcome karma :D
ive mirgrated from 7 years of Pipex...my last few years with them have been grueling so i got some good insights into IDNet therefore migrated :) so far im very happy with the service and speed but wouldnt mind some more :).
i agree with what your saying hopefully in the next 10 days ill get better speeds

Take a look at Kitz for your modem/router:
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm
If it isn't listed, tell us the make and model and we'll try to help.
If you migrated 'like for like' there won't be a new training period.

So you're running a Netgear. :)
Something is wrong there, for a 21db attenuation, I'd expect you to sync at 8128 or close to it. Your u/s sync is also odd, it should be 832. Were you on a premium package before, or did you upgrade to Super Max with your migration?

Yep indeed i am :)
i was on pipex 8mb before and mirgrated to SuperMax
I'd suggest you have a word with IDNet then (0800 0267237), as your figures don't look right, and you don't want to have them set in stone that way.
Before you do, you might want to check your internal wiring is OK, there's a guide here (http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=1904.msg31528#msg31528). In particular, you will almost certainly benefit from the removal of the ring wire, if appropriate.

Thank you for the help :) ill have a look at the guide now and contact IDNet
Welcome Nilazz. Glad to see you got here ok. A very warm welcome to you and I hope you enjoy the experience. :welc: :banana2: :banana2: :banana2:
Isn't there a difference in upload speed on the SuperMax package? Would that not trigger line retraining?
It will do, Simon, but my concern is that I've never seen anyone sync at less than the max on the u/s side, hence I think it's worth getting it checked before MSR/FTR become set.
